I finished season two here are my thoughts so MILD SPOILERS below don't read if you don't want mild spoilers and I'm not using spoiler tag because nobody ever replies to posts in spoiler tags.

It's a good season. Jessica is still easily the best lead character of these Marvel Netflix shows and Krysten Ritter always makes her compelling to watch. That's essential to the show's success because the opening episodes of the season are pretty slow. For a while it's not clear where it's going at all but since I like Jessica (and Trish and Malcolm and Jeri all to a lesser extent!) it's good to watch her and them doing their thing.

After Killgrave was such an effective villain in the previous season this one goes a different way by not really having a "villain" at all (apart from INTERNAL VILLAINS.) It's a smart move I think because everyone gets so obsessed with the villains in Marvel properties now. Even I, in the final episode felt conditioned to think "oh THIS is when that characters's going to go into out and out villainry and fight Jessica!" and when that character died I thought "oh Jessica's actually going to have a fight with THAT character instead, that's clever!" but then she didn't fight that character either and there was no big final episode fight scene. Which was good! It woudln't really have made sense for there to be one. I liked the ending scene with Jessica giving us some well earned smiles. That was more satisfying than her punching someone's head off or whatever. Okay, yes, there was one character who did some pretty bad things but I liked that she never went all out evil like say Fisk did in the last episode of Daredevil season one. Even Callum Keith Rennie's character, while doing some ethically questionable things, genuinely waned to help people and seemed like a pretty chill guy. So yeah the character work was very good.

The one episode with Killgrave was fun, of course, just because he's such a prick.

I do still have the same problem I have with all these Netflix Marvel shows: why don't they do more subplots? Like they could have had Jessica solve some other cases in there. It would have been nice to actually see her day to day detective work. They could have done some episodes where she's just helping her clients and the main plot is in the background. But it doesn't seem like that's going to change any time soon.

I did wonder when Jeri's plot was going to crossover with Jessica's and...turned out it didn't really. But Carrie Anne Moss did some strong acting and her ultimate revenge on those who wronged her was pretty satisfying. Even if it could have happened in any other show (she was in Iron Fist too.)

Anyway I liked it.

I like the characterization of most of the Marvel Netflix universe, but the pacing is glacial and they beat points to death. When you binge watch it becomes painfully obvious, like realizing how often the characters in LOST spent half the show walking back and forth in the jungle.

I just try to watch one at a time. I've tried binge watching but I end up kinda sick of the show. I don't want to feel that way when I watch a show.

I wish I had a superhero inhaler!

Yesterday I watched ep 5 and tonight ep 6. I wasn't expecting that to be her MOM.

I think Jessica Jones and The Punisher suffer less from that than the others, but again that might just be because they have better characters/acting.

I haven't watched season 2 yet but I'm sorta hoping they finally do something with Hellcat. She was always one of my favorite Defenders back as a kid.

I finally watched the whole thing. That was a lot sadder than I expected.

Trish does have a super power! SHE CAN BE A HACKY SACK CHAMPION!
