The Tesla episode was fun.

Tesla. That was it.

The Question

The Judoon episode borrowed a lot from RTD era Who. Judoon, Chameleon Arch, return of Jack Harkness, and all. In some ways, that was good; in others, it was a little depressing, because it was a reminder of how far Who has fallen, starting with the Series 8 rewrite of Clara Oswald into a pathological liar and generally annoying cunt, and accelerating when Whittaker started Christopher Eccleston impression-ing her way through the role. I keep expecting her to blurt out, "Every planeh's goh' a nohf!"

Oh, and of course the alternate Doctor has to be played by a Novelty Diversity Hire, too.

The Question

Eternal
If that's what he wants to go with, he's going to have to retcon something, and do it so hard it comes off as the cheapest and flimsiest bit of writing yet. Neither one of them knew the other one, when one of them should have. The only way that's possible is if one of them is from an alternate timeline.

He could go with, "Well, the Chameleon Arch making her seem human means her future self didn't recognize her." Problem with that is that she "un-Chameleoned" and her future self saw her immediately afterward. Also, Eleven recognized Ten, and Ten had used a Chameleon Arch, too.

The other possibility is that he's just straight lying about it to fake out the fans, which is no less cheap and flimsy when he could just say something along the lines of "wait and see" instead. Chibnall is quoted as saying he's "aware of" the continuity; well, being aware of it is a nice start. It's giving a shit about it that counts.

Chibnall's on record as saying he doesn't do reviews or really care what the fans think. He's in it for the artistic angle.

That bodes poorly.

Yeah. Like when Trek went 'artistic' and brought in famed screenwriter John Logan to write Nemesis, and a famed film editor to direct it.

That worked out so well.

He couldn't have issued more contrary statements without great effort. Unless what he means by 'artistic' is what the most mediocre of 'artists' means -- that it sucks lumpy butt sauce and he'd rather rationalize than put out better work.

OK, my theory. When the time lords told 2, they were going to force a regeneration on him they didn't do it straight away, in the two doctors a much older 2nd doctor and older Jamie met the sixth, and 6 didn't remember any of it, 2 could have been working for the time lords for decades, and had his memories of the time removed at the end of his usefulness. Further more, this might not have happened at the end of 2s life. He could have regenerated a dozen times in this covert role, which would explain the extra faces in the brain of morbius, one of these could have been doctor Ruth.

So they wipe his or her memories and force a regeneration into what we know as the 3rd doctor. What he doesn't realise is his next regeneration will be his last. As the 4th doctor dies a strange mummy like being merges with the 4th, granting him more lives, and when 5 dies he even says it feels different this time.

The Question

Eternal
That's a pretty deep cut, deeper than I'd give Chibnall credit for.

I really doubt they'll do any sort of explanation that actually involves knowing anything specific about the classic series. I could be wrong.

's what I'm sayin', yo.

The environmental message was integrated a little better this time, but doing another "you lot, take care of the planet!" ending three weeks after the really bad one isn't going to go down very well. And the episode wasn't very good either. I did like that Yaz went off and did something on her own and maybe that's setting something up (or maybe not.) The Doctor not mentioning the vents of last week at all was weird. The blogger girl constantly going "HAVE YOU SEEN MY BLOG my friend just died I don't care I'M A SUPER FAMOUS BLOGGER" was really annoying.

She got over that death super quickly.

Also I know the tardis is fast, but cop guy has skills getting to Hong Kong that quick.

Also no one even mentioned the guy who was watching the birds, I guess they were feeling peckish?

What was even the point of that character when nobody noticed or cared that he died?

I've only seen the second half of the episode so far...

PLUS POINTS for kissing gay couple and neither of them dying.

MINUS POINTS for yet another preachy Earth-bound episode. The voiceover at the end made me want to turn it off -- I'm sick of being lectured by her about my recycling.

I keep thinking they must have had a gay kiss before (there was Jack kissing Graham two episodes earlier but Graham isn't gay) but I can't think of one (Torchwood definitely doesn't count.)
