Kings buy out final 2 years of Dion Phaneuf's deal
Phaneuf had two years left on a seven-year, $49 million contract through the 2020-21 season. He agreed to the deal in Toronto, but has been traded twice since. The 34-year-old veteran spent 93 games with the Kings, who acquired him in February 2018.

Jordan Eberle re-signs with Islanders for 5 years
In his two seasons with the Islanders, he has 44 goals and 52 assists.

Coyotes sign Ilya Lyubushkin to 1-year deal
Lyubushkin, 25, had four assists in 41 games in 2018-19, his first season with the Coyotes. The 6-foot-2, 201-pound native of Moscow was third among NHL rookies with 150 hits.

Capitals sign Hagelin to 4-year extension
Hagelin began last season with the Penguins, with whom he won two Stanley Cups before being dealt to Los Angeles for Tanner Pearson in November. Washington sent third- and sixth-round draft picks to the Kings for the forward.


Blackhawks trade for Pens defenseman Olli Maatta
The 24-year-old Maatta, who helped Pittsburgh win the Stanley Cup in 2016 and 2017, ranked third on the Penguins with 116 blocked shots in 60 games last season.

Predators trade All-Star D Subban to Devils
P.K. Subban, the 2013 Norris Trophy winner, was limited to 63 games last season, and saw his ice time reduced to 22:40 a night (he averaged more than 26 minutes a night between 2014 and 2016). Subban's offensive numbers dipped last season as well, posting only nine goals and 22 assists.


Maple Leafs trade foward Patrick Marleau to Hurricanes
Toronto have freed up valuable salary-cap space by with the trade. The Hurricanes acquired a top-10 protected first-round pick and a seventh-round selection in next year's draft.
