LSU remained No. 1 in the AP Top 25 presented by Regions Bank, receiving 54 first-places votes. No. 2 Ohio State (five first-place votes) and No. 3 Clemson (three first-place votes) maintained their spots. Georgia moved up one place after winning 21-14 at Auburn.

Duke moved to No.1 for the first time this season. Louisville moved to No.2 with eight first-place votes. Michigan State the preseason No.1 is No.3 with four first-place votes. Kansas and North Carolina round out the top five. Three teams moved into the AP Top 25. No.20 Tennessee, No.21 VCU and No.22 Texas.

Canada beat the United States in the Davis Cup for the first time on Tuesday, defeating the Americans 2-0 on the second day of the revamped team competition to end a run of 15 straight losses. Vasek Pospisil edged Reilly Opelka 7-6 (5), 7-6 (7) and Dennis Shapovalov defeated Taylor Fritz 7-6 (6), 6-3 to give the Canadians an insurmountable lead in Group F of the inaugural Davis Cup Finals.
It was Canada's first win in 16 meetings with the United States in the 119-year-old competition, although the teams had not played since 1965. The Americans had lost only three matches in total against their neighbors in the previous 15 meetings. The result leaves the United States needing to beat Italy on Wednesday to have a chance of advancing to the knockout stage. Italy lost to Canada 2-1 in the opening group tie on Monday.
The U.S. has won 32 Davis Cup titles, but its last came in 2007. If it fails to win in Madrid, it will equal the team's longest gap between titles. The new Davis Cup is being played in a World Cup-style format with all 18 teams playing in a single venue in the same week, instead of the head-to-head confrontations that used to take place at varied sites over four weekends throughout the year.

The Americans got off to a bit of a slow start and trailed 15-10 after the first quarter. But the United States outscored Brazil 23-16 in the second quarter to take control. Center Sylvia Fowles of the Minnesota Lynx and guard Chelsea Gray of the Los Angeles Sparks each scored 21 points for the Americans and combined to shoot 18-of-23 from the field. Gray also had eight assists and five steals. Her Sparks teammate Nneka Ogwumike had 11 points for the Americans. Lynx forward Damiris Dantas had 11 points for Brazil, and former WNBA player Erika de Souza had 11 points and 12 rebounds.
