Deontay Wilder KO's Luis Ortiz in 7th round to retain heavyweight title

Ortiz was soundly outboxing Wilder and was ahead on all three scorecards until Wilder crushed Ortiz with one devastating right hand to the forehead to knock him out in the seventh round and retain his title for the 10th time -- surpassing the number made by legends such as Mike Tyson and Joe Frazier -- before a crowd of about 10,000 on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Wilder (42-0-1, 41 KOs), 34, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, barely threw or landed anything in the early going as he looked for a spot to launch his powerful right hand. The slower pace favored the older Ortiz, but Wilder landed a solid right hand in the third round that knocked Ortiz briefly off balance in a round he otherwise got the better of. Ortiz launched two hard left hands early in the fourth round that backed up Wilder, and when he landed another shot, Wilder responded by beating his chest.

Ortiz was leading 59-55, 59-55 and 58-56 at the time of the knockout. The fight was a rematch of their memorable seesaw battle on March 3, 2018, in Brooklyn, New York, where they fought a contender for fight of the year in which Wilder dropped Ortiz in the fifth round, barely survived a massive onslaught of blows over the final 45 seconds of the seventh round and rallied to score a highlight-reel knockout in the 10th round of a fight Wilder led 85-84 on all three scorecards at the time of the knockout.
According to CompuBox statistics, Wilder, who was guaranteed $20 million, landed 34 of 184 punches (19%), but only one mattered. Ortiz landed 35 of 179 (20%) but could never get Wilder in the kind of trouble he had him in during the seventh round of the first fight. Ortiz (31-2, 26 KOs), 40, a Cuban defector fighting out of Miami, was bidding to become the first Cuban to win a heavyweight title. He earned at least $7 million for the fight with Wilder.

James Morgan leads FIU to stunning upset of Miami 30-24
Miami didn't just lose a football game on Saturday night, it lost to crosstown rival Florida International, a relatively fledgling program that has been completely overshadowed by the Hurricanes since its inception two decades ago and barely registers a blip of notice.

European Tour allows players to wear shorts for first time

Golfers at this week's Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa will give their traditional trousers short shrift and dress for comfort instead, in a first for the European Tour. The governing body said it will let players wear shorts at the Nov. 28-Dec. 1 tournament at the Leopard Creek Country Club, where temperatures are expected to hit 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit). The decision, described by organisers as "ground-breaking", has been hailed as "the right thing to do" and a victory for common sense by four-times major champion Ernie Els. Women professional golfers can play in shorts unlike their male counterparts, though the LPGA caused a social media storm in 2017 when it told its players to avoid plunging necklines, and skirts, skorts or pants that expose part of the "bottom area". Men have traditionally worn trousers on competition days, but the European Tour and Southern Africa's Sunshine Tour tweaked the rules in 2016 to allow them to wear shorts during practice rounds and pro-am events. The U.S. PGA Tour adopted the same policy for men earlier this year.

Week 13 NFL takeaways: Bears, Bills win; Saints clinch playoffs

Chicago Bears 24, Detroit Lions 20
Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky played his best game of the season.
It's easy to pick apart the handful of mistakes Trubisky committed against the Lions. Yes, Trubisky needed to run straight ahead and not bounce outside on a third-and-short scramble near the end of the first half. Last season, Trubisky probably plows ahead for the first down. This season, because of shoulder and hip injuries, it's not that simple. Trubisky also threw a bad interception on a ball intended for Allen Robinson. But he completed 29 of 38 passes for 338 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, and led Chicago on its winning drive. The Bears will take those results any day of the week.

Next game: vs. Dallas (6-6)

Buffalo Bills 26, Dallas Cowboys 15

The Bills can beat good teams, too. The bulk of the criticism against Buffalo has centered on its seven wins against teams with losing records and lack of a "marquee" victory. The regular-season stage doesn't get much brighter than Thanksgiving at Dallas, and the Bills turned in their best performance -- yet they don't see it as a statement win. With 10 days to prepare for the Ravens in Week 14, Buffalo thinks it simply met its expectations. "No statement game, this is just another week in Buffalo Bills land," defensive end Jerry Hughes said. "This is what we do, this is what the [Bills] Mafia expects us to do."

Next game: vs. Baltimore

New Orleans Saints 26, Atlanta Falcons 18

The Saints (10-2) became the first team to clinch a playoff spot this season. And they got to serve up some revenge on Thanksgiving night after their ugly loss to the Falcons 18 days earlier. But they were still far from perfect, thanks to another barrage of penalties, some dropped passes and a shocking inability to recover onside kicks. They need a much cleaner performance if they want to aim for a higher seed, with a critical home date looming against the 49ers in Week 14.

Next game: vs. San Francisco

Jason Day pulls out of Presidents Cup with back injury
Day, a former No. 1-ranked player in the world who won the 2015 PGA Championship, had been selected by Els as one of his at-large picks after a disappointing season that has seen him drop to No. 31 in the world. Day's last top-10 finish was a tie for eighth at the Travelers Championship in June.

Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth part of Hero Shot in Bahamas
The "Hero Shot at Baha Mar" will see the players hit a 100-yard wedge shot to a moving target in a pool at the Baha Mar hotel, starting at 4 p.m. ET. Players will receive points based on their proximity to the target, with each player getting six attempts. The winners of three head-to-head matchups will advance to a three-person competition that will ultimately see two players competing for the title.

No. 16 Auburn upends No. 5 Alabama's playoff hopes, 48-45

Alabama (10-2, 6-2) made the first five College Football Playoffs fields, but its case was damaged with a 46-41 loss to No. 1 LSU. The team's in-state rival delivered the final blow.

No. 4 Georgia (11-1, 7-1 SEC) - No.2 LSU (12-0, 8-0 SEC) plays for the SEC Championshp and a spot in the College Football Playoffs.

College Football Playoff: With Alabama out of picture, hopes rise for Oklahoma, Utah and Baylor
With the Tide's 48-45 loss against rival Auburn in the Iron Bowl on Saturday, the greatest potential source for debate -- a very good team that didn't win its division -- has been eliminated. Alabama, the only team in the country to reach every playoff since its inception in 2014, lost the two games that mattered most, opening the door for the Pac-12 and Big 12 champions to garner the most serious top-four consideration to date.

Are No. 1 Ohio State and No. 2 LSU already in? What happens to Wisconsin or Georgia if they win? Can Oklahoma leapfrog Utah for a top-four finish? Does Baylor have a chance?
