Sources: Cowboys to put La'el Collins, Sean Lee on injured reserve Sunday
Collins has been dealing with a hip issue that kept him off the practice field late in the week, and he did not work much at all during training camp. Lee has been dealing with a pelvis issue that did not allow him to practice at all in training camp, but he played through the injury late last season.

Dallas Cowboys all-time teams: Tom Landry vs. Jerry Jones eras
From 1960 through 1988, Landry was the Cowboys, the only coach the organization knew. Along with president and general manager Tex Schramm and vice president of personnel Gil Brandt, America's Team was born. In 1989, Jones purchased the Cowboys, paying $140 million for the team and Texas Stadium. Today, the Cowboys are the richest franchise in the world, valued by Forbes at more than $5 billion. The Cowboys won Super Bowls in three of Jones' first seven years as owner.

Sources: DE Randy Gregory conditionally reinstated , signs 1-year extension with Cowboys

Conditionally reinstated last week, defensive end Randy Gregory signed a one-year extension through 2021 with the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday that includes a $200,000 signing bonus, according to multiple sources. Gregory and the Cowboys agreed to a similar extension last season, but the NFL disapproved it because suspended players cannot sign new contracts.Gregory was set to make $955,000 this season as part of his rookie deal, but he has essentially been fronted some signing bonus money after not earning any salary last season. If he is on the game-day roster for six games in 2020, he will make up to $2.1 million in 2021. He missed all of last season after playing in 14 games in 2018 and finishing with six sacks, which was second on the team. He missed 30 of 32 regular-season games in 2016 and '17 because of suspensions. He has played in only 28 of a possible 80 regular-season games in his career. Coach Mike McCarthy and defensive coordinator Mike Nolan said Monday that they had not had any talks with Gregory.

Sources: Cowboys rework Zack Martin deal, create $8M in salary cap space

The Dallas Cowboys have restructured the contract of Pro Bowl right guard Zack Martin and created nearly $8 million in salary cap space, sources told ESPN on Wednesday. The Cowboys made a similar move last month with Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith. Like that one, the transaction is more about creating space to carry over to 2021, when the cap is expected to be lower because of the coronavirus pandemic, than it is about adding players to the roster. By reworking the contracts for Smith and Martin, the Cowboys have created roughly $15 million in cap room. Unlike the Smith deal, the Cowboys did not add any voidable years to Martin's contract since he is signed through 2024.

Dallas Cowboys call up veteran safety Brandon Carr from practice squad

The Dallas Cowboys have called up veteran safety Brandon Carr from the practice squad in time for Sunday's season opener against the Los Angeles Rams. Carr joined the Cowboys on Monday as the team looked to supplement its depth at safety following the release of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. Head coach Mike McCarthy said Friday the team limited Carr's work during practice because he had not been in training camp. Carr, 34, said he kept himself in good shape despite not being with the team during the entire offseason and into the summer. He played some safety last season for the Baltimore Ravens. From 2012 to 2016, he played cornerback with the Cowboys. He did not anticipate having difficulty picking up the Cowboys' scheme.

Opening up with a loss in Mike McCarthy's debut as coach made the Cowboys, “eager,” to get back to practice to focus on Atlanta, their Week 2 foe, according to wide receiver Michael Gallup. “Losing, especially your first game because that's a lot of momentum to have going into the season, everybody wants to get back to work and flush it out,” he said. “Everybody is hungry, ready to go for this week."

Ezekiel Elliott's family usually makes it to AT&T Stadium for games, sitting in a field-level suite in the end zone. Not so this year but it cost the running back some money anyway. “It's going to kind of suck. Me and my mom, we had a trade off. I told her that she couldn't come down this year, so I finished her basement and got her a nice TV and couches so she has somewhere nice to watch the games."

Randy Gregory, who is on the Commissioner's Exempt list, was working through resistance training during the open portion of practice to the media. He has been conditionally reinstated but will not play until Oct. 25 at the earliest. Cornerback Jourdan Lewis (ankle) took part in the early portion of practice.

Jerry Jones has declined to give a specific attendance figure for games at AT&T Stadium, but Mike McCarthy said the expectation is 25 percent capacity. If that's the case, then somewhere around 20,000 fans will be in attendance Sunday against Atlanta. Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium had the most fans in Week 1 with 15,895.

3 x 1,000 yards: Cowboys' Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, CeeDee Lamb aim high

Before last Sunday, Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb were something mythical, like a fantasy football dream. After one game, even in a 20-17 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, things were not perfect for the Dallas Cowboys' wide receiver trio, but it is easier to see what they can truly be as the 2020 NFL season gets going. Cooper finished with 10 catches for 81 yards; Lamb had five catches for 59 yards; Gallup had three catches for 50 yards but had a 47-yard reception negated by a pass interference penalty on an ill-fated final drive. The Cowboys have had formidable receiver duos in the past: Bob Hayes and Lance Rentzel; Drew Pearson and Tony Hill, Michael Irvin and Alvin Harper, Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn, Dez Bryant and Miles Austin.

The Cowboys will be without starting cornerback Chidobe Awuzie for multiple weeks, according to Mike MCarthy, because of a hamstring injury suffered vs. Atlanta. Left tackle Tyron Smith will be with the rehab group and not take part in team drills. DeMarcus Lawrence (knee) will not be at practice as he tends to a personal matter.

Why did Greg Zuerlein attempt his watermelon kick to the left Sunday? It's where the Cowboys' bench is located. Had he kicked it to his right, Atlanta's coaches could have yelled at their players how to correctly handle the play. John Fassel had the Rams try a similar squibbing onside kick last year vs. the Cowboys. Johnny Hekker's attempt was to the LA sideline. "I'm going to leave that up to the imagination if you don't mind, but that's a pretty good thought," Fassel said. "You're onto me."

Defensive coordinator Mike Nolan is disappointed with the Cowboys' pass rush that has two sacks in two games,if not the individual pass rushers. "I would like to think it's more the coordination of all four guys. That's what we can work on," he said. "The individual battles are things guys have to work on all the time regardless of the game ... But I'm a bit disappointed with just the coordination and playing together as one in the defensive line these first two weeks."

Mike McCarthy was moved when his players gave him a game ball for his first win as Cowboys' coach. "Those are the moments in this great game that you always remember," he said. " Those are the moments when you're sitting on the porch at the end of the journey, you'll look back on. I mean, it was a great regular season win for us, no doubt about it. To come early in the season like this, I think there is definitely an opportunity to build off this win."
