I gotta GTFO out of the midwest.

The Question

This place is Fucking Stupid. Ackley hasn't even got a fucking grocery store. At least Holbrook had that. Not to mention, as steep as $600/mo was on a fixed income, $500/mo for this house COMES WITH $115 for electric and $50 for gas, which I was not told until I was already here. So that's a total of $665 -- before internet, which is another $65, for a grand total of $730 -- as opposed to $500 with everything included. So yeah, costs me $230/mo more to live here than it did there.

Now, a 3 bedroom house is worth that. But there's no town here. Plus, midwest, which has proved to mean that every 3-4 days for the last 2 months, FWOOMP! 2-3 feet of fucking snow. Welllll, NOPE! Come May I'm going back to Holbrook. 'Cause FUCK this shit.

I don't do snow. Maybe for a day if I am at a skiing resort but that is it.
I was glad to leave California. And you couldn't pay me to go back. But living a bit North of your Neck of the Woods in 2000-2002...I'm glad I had that experience. Come home from work on Friday, park the car, grab the board and go surfing (our apartment complex was on the beach) and hop in the car the next morning for a day of skiing up at Big Bear? Wonderful.

'Sucks' is when you go to a taqueria and discover that they ran out of carne asada 15 minutes before you walked up to the truck and you're gonna have to chill for 15-20 minutes while they make up another batch.

Naw.

This isn't 'sucks'. This midwest eleventy billionteen degrees below zero crap is Fucking Bonkers.

The Question

So okay, assuming that Biden & Co. don't reneg the $2K stimcheck again, from $1,400 down to say, a box of Cracker Jacks and a Chuck E. Cheese token or some shit...

The investo from that will be into a GTFO-friendly iPad Air 4 + Magic Keyboard.

What is holding it up right now is dems have put so much unrelated horrible shit into the bill that now even the centrist dems have decided to block it because the far left just went wild with stupid shit.

That's what happens when you vote a guy in whose campaign was based on pandering to the fringe kooks for their support. Now he's beholden to them, which means that even though Democrats now hold a (slim) majority in both House and Senate, there's still gridlock -- moderate versus radical gridlock.

Both parties are now split.

The GOP is split between Republicans and Democrat(R)s.

The Democratic Party is split between Democrats and Socialist(D)s.

What about (I know I know) Trump and his ridiculous legacy? Fringe kooks amok in Congress. Deniers in the Senate. ITS THE WHOLE FUCKING PLACE that's a mess. Blaming one party is ridiculous. Cancun Ted has a vaca while his constituents are dying, because greed. Cuomo is killing old people in nursing homes because Trump. It's all fucked. Just give me enough liquid to get the fuck out of here by summer and they can have it.

That was sorta exactly my point; well, different in that we more or less have 4 parties on this weird sliding scale of kookery.

If I never see snow again, ever, it will be much too soon. I hate the shit.

Same. FWIW, I'm told that this has been one of Iowa's worst winters in a very long time.

That doesn't exactly make it acceptable. This here boy is a desert creature. Snow right around the stretch between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve? Okay, fine. In moderation. But after that, it can fuck directly off. I don't wanna see Kurt Russell shambling around my front yard with a flamethrower doling out blood tests to the fucking squirrel-cicles or some shit.

That is way cheaper than rent down South, for that price you would be living somewhere in the hood. Even cheap apartments run around $900 for a 2 bedroom 2 bath.

The Question

I've lived "in the hood." Back in the very early Oughties, the complex I lived in went for about $525/mo for a one bedroom, and (this was long before California real estate leeches jacked the cost of everything in Tempe into deep orbit) that particular stretch of E. Apache was known as "Van Buren East" because of how deep the whole section of town was crawling in crackheads and crackwhores.

The trick to that is easy -- you stay indoors most of the time, and when you're outdoors, you don't speak to anyone who isn't behind a cash register -- especially if they try to get you to talk to them. Going armed is, of course, strongly advised.

squirrel-cicles. I like that. There should be more of those frozen tree rats, too.

Shedcat tends to keep their local population trimmed. No idea what the hell she's eating at this time of year, other than the occasional this or that I leave out on my porch for her. I've tried coaxing her into the house so she can stay warm and fed in here; no dice, she ain't havin' it.
