David Ross introduced as new manager of Cubs
Ross is set out to be his own man, not a front-office puppet---"I will be making my own decisions and continue with feedback from the group," Ross said in his introductory news conference Monday. Yankees announce pitching coach Larry Rothschild won't return

The New York Yankees have fired pitching coach Larry Rothschild, the team announced Monday. Rothschild has had the job since 2011, when he replaced Dave Eiland, who was fired. Statistically, the 2019 pitching staff wasn't as good as the 2018 version, however. The 2019 Yankees finished 103-59 for a .636 winning percentage, and their 4.31 team ERA ranked sixth in the AL. The 2018 team finished 100-62 but with a 3.78 ERA.

J.D. Martinez doesn't opt out of contract with Red Sox
By remaining with the Red Sox, Martinez can earn $62.5 million over the next three years: $23.75 million for 2020 and $19,375,000 for both 2021 and 2022. He also has the option to opt out after each of the next two seasons, as long as he does not spend a lengthy period on the injured list.

Yanks don't give qualifying offer to Didi Gregorius
The New York Yankees have decided not to extend the $17.8 million qualifying offer to shortstop Gregorius, making him a free agent. New York now will not get draft pick compensation if he signs elsewhere. New York still could try to re-sign him.

This is Mariner 10. It was the first probe to explore the planet Mercury - which it did WAY back in 1974.

Now you may ask, "Now Charlemagne, what in God's name does THIS have to do with sports?" The answer? Not a Goddamn thing. It's just that this little tidbit of information is still infinitely more useful and worth sharing than whatever the fuck Blackfoot tries doing in this forum.
