Ron Rivera out as Carolina coach after nine seasons
Secondary coach Perry Fewell has been named interim head coach. Offensive coordinator Norv Turner will transition to special assistant to the head coach, and quarterbacks coach Scott Turner will serve as offensive coordinator.

Rivera ended his nine-year tenure at Carolina as the winningest coach in team history, with a 76-63-1 regular season record and a 3-4 postseason mark. He was a two-time NFL Coach of the Year and took the team to Super Bowl 50 following the 2015 season, but finished with only three winning seasons since taking over in 2011. He is looked at as one of the best defensive minds in the game league wide.

Ravens sign two-way player Patrick Ricard to 2-year extension
The Baltimore Ravens signed fullback-defensive tackle Patrick Ricard to a two-year extension Tuesday, keeping one of the NFL's most versatile players under contract through the 2021 season. After going undrafted out of Maine, the player known as "Project Pat" for playing both sides of the ball has carved a unique niche in his third season. Ricard, 25, who leads all fullbacks in Pro Bowl voting, has been a key blocker for the NFL's top-rushing attack. He also has recorded nine tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one pass defensed.

Saints re-sign linebacker Manti Te'o in wake of injuries, source says
Te'o, 28, has been out of the NFL this season after spending the previous two years in New Orleans. The Saints apparently needed more depth after starting middle linebacker Kiko Alonso and starting strongside linebacker A.J. Klein suffered unspecified injuries during last Thursday night's win at Atlanta. Te'o, a Heisman Trophy runner-up at Notre Dame, spent his first four seasons with the San Diego Chargers. He has started 46 games in his career, including 12 with the Saints, with 301 career tackles.

49ers suspend radio analyst Tim Ryan for Lamar Jackson comments

The San Francisco 49ers suspended radio analyst Tim Ryan on Wednesday after he said on a Bay Area radio station that Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson's dark skin helps him disguise a dark football when running fake handoffs in Baltimore's zone-read-heavy offense. Ryan will not broadcast Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints while serving the suspension. The Niners released a statement on the matter Wednesday evening from Florida, where they are practicing at IMG Academy in preparation to play at the Saints after losin 20-17 to the Ravens last week.

Patriots' Bill Belichick denies involvement with videographer caught taping Bengals' sideline

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick on Tuesday denied any involvement with the videographer who was caught taping the Cincinnati Bengals sideline during their game against Cleveland on Sunday. It has raised suspicions around the league and drawn some comparisons to "Spygate," the 2007 incident that led to penalties for Belichick and the Patriots. Belichick said the franchise has altered its approach since then.

According to the Patriots, the advance scout in the press box for the Bengals' 27-19 loss to the Browns was being filmed for a series on employees that is featured on the team's website. A Bengals team employee spotted New England's videographer filming Cincinnati's sideline for the entire first quarter, a source told ESPN. The NFL is investigating the matter. In a statement released Monday evening, the Patriots said the crew immediately turned over all footage to the league and cooperated fully, and takes full responsibility for the incident. Belichick said Tuesday he has never viewed any video footage from the Patriots' TV production, nor has his coaching staff.

In 2007, Belichick was fined $500,000 and the Patriots were docked a first-round pick in the 2008 draft after a team employee was caught recording unauthorized footage of the Green Bay Packers and the New York Jets. A league investigation found eight tapes of game footage and written notes on scouting information accumulated over the seven previous seasons. The Patriots (10-3) have a one-game lead over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East heading into Sunday's games. The Bengals (1-12) have the worst record in the NFL.

Giants waive CB Janoris Jenkins after 'offensive' tweet to fan
On Wednesday, Jenkins called a critical fan a "retard" when taking exception to questioning about why the stats Jenkins was using to showcase his effectiveness weren't contributing to victories. Giants coach Pat Shurmur met with Jenkins on Wednesday and said in a statement Friday that Jenkins' refusal to admit that what he did was wrong led to his release.

The NFL and Colin Kaepernick are done with each other:
Roger Goodell said the league has moved on,.

In the wake of a league-arranged workout for Kaepernick in November that, predictably, fell apart amid finger-pointing between the quarterback and his onetime employer, Goodell said Kaepernick is in the league’s rearview mirror. “This was … about creating an opportunity,” Goodell said in response to reporters’ questions about last month’s scheduled event in Atlanta that Kaepernick canceled at the last minute following multiple disagreements between the sides. “It was a unique opportunity – an incredible opportunity – and he chose not to take it. I understand that. And we have moved on.”

Ravens' Marcus Peters fined $14K for celebratory beer with fans
After knocking down Josh Allen's fourth-down pass at the Baltimore 1-yard line with 1:03 remaining, Peters jumped into a section filled with Ravens fans at Buffalo's New Era Field and shotgunned a can of beer as he lay back in their arms. The NFL fined Peters for unsportsmanlike conduct. Baltimore clinched a playoff berth with Peters' heroics. It was the latest big play by Peters, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Rams in October. He has returned two interceptions for touchdowns since joining the Ravens.
