I find that lyrics don't work well as poems and vice versa.

Agree or disagree? There are some exceptions, but to me, poems set to music sound strained a lot of the time, and song lyrics usually strike me as emptier without the music...

I agree that it doesn't work well most of the time. Lyrics are, however, basically poetry set to music- they might lack the meter and such in writing, though.
