The Big Ben Problem in Pittsburgh, According to Two Ex-Steelers

“Ben is a great player but he doesn’t try to connect with teammates.”

“He is close with the O-Line and maybe a few guys here and there, but for the most part he stays to himself. During practice when the team would be warming up a lot of times he would be sitting on the water coolers reading the newspapers. So when Ben is critical of players publicly without having a relationship with them, it can rub them the wrong way because they don’t know if it is out of love or what. And when you call out All-Pro guys, that definitely doesn’t sit well with them.”

Steelers GM: Rehabbing Ben Roethlisberger not at the end

Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert is optimistic that Ben Roethlisberger's rehab is going in the right direction and said he doesn't think the veteran quarterback "is at the end of the road." Roethlisberger, who will turn 38 next month, had surgery on Sept. 23 to repair a season-ending elbow injury he suffered in Week 2. Colbert would neither confirm nor deny that Roethlisberger had Tommy John surgery, but said he remains on track in his rehab and has a checkup in Los Angeles on Feb. 21. Roethlisberger is the last remaining quarterback drafted in 2004 who is with his longtime team, after Eli Manning's retirement and Phillip Rivers departure from the Chargers. Colbert believes Roethlisberger, a two-time Super Bowl champion, is still a valuable asset.
