Kurt Angle among WWE releases; furloughs also announced
Angle, the legendary former WWE heavyweight champion and a WWE Hall of Famer, had been working backstage as a producer since his retirement match at WrestleMania 35 in April 2019. Angle, 51, won an Olympic wrestling gold medal in 1996. He was one of WWE's top stars from 1998 to 2006 and won the WWE heavyweight title four times.

Among the more high-profile names let go were former world champion Kurt Angle, former tag team champions Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows, former cruiserweight champion Lio Rush, former 24/7 champion Drake Maverick, former Intercontinental champion Zack Ryder and former U.S. champion Rusev. Referee Mike Chioda, who was the longest-tenured referee in WWE history, having been with the company for more than 20 years, also was let go.

A strange week for WWE: Tag titles change hands in a non-tag match, MITB to be very different
SmackDown tag team titles change hands in non-tag match
For the second time in the month of April, the SmackDown tag team titles were defended in most unusual circumstances. In the chaos of scrambling together a WrestleMania match amid the chaos of growing restrictions, John Morrison successfully defended his and The Miz's tag belts against Jimmy Uso and Kofi Kingston in a ladder match in one of the highlights of the first night of WrestleMania 36. To balance out the other side of the equation, the other halves of those tag teams -- The Miz, Jey Uso and Big E -- met in a triple threat title match of their own on SmackDown. What few could've expected is that a tag title change actually played out in a non-tag team match. Big E came back from several interactions with a ringside table to pin The Miz with a Big Ending, making the New Day eight-time SmackDown tag team champions. It's anybody's guess where things go from here, although a proper tag team title match seems to be in order.

AEW's no-fans PPV features Mike Tyson and Jags stadium brawl

Cody Rhodes was talking backstage with Frankie Kazarian, a veteran wrestler and one of All Elite Wrestling's locker room leaders. The promotion had just finished up its first pay-per-view event since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, a no-fans live show at Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida. "This is the time that wrestling is going to forget," Rhodes said Kazarian told him, "but they're not going to forget what we did tonight." AEW Double or Nothing on Saturday night featured a creative brawl all over the Jacksonville Jaguars' TIAA Bank Field, an appearance from boxing legend Mike Tyson and a bloody title match. It was the second annual Double or Nothing, following the upstart promotion's first card in May 2019.

Shawn Michaels reflects on his iconic WWE moments with The Undertaker

When Mark Calaway became The Undertaker in 1990, Shawn Michaels was already a Rocker. At that time, Michaels was an accomplished tag team performer adorned in neon and tassels alongside his partner, Marty Jannetty, about a year away from kicking Jannetty and throwing him through a "barber shop" window and embarking on his own Hall of Fame singles career. Over the next three decades, The Undertaker and "The Heartbreak Kid," as Michaels would come to be known, would work together to create some of the greatest matches in the history of the WWE. Their harmony in the ring was remarkable. Their relationship outside of it was, for the most part, nonexistent.
