Michael Rosenbaum leaving 'Smallville'
Two new villains to appear on show

Actor Michael Rosenbaum is leaving the CW's "Smallville" after seven seasons with the show.

Rosenbaum, who plays Superman's nemesis Lex Luthor, will be replaced by two new villains.

"It is time for me to start the next chapter of my life and career," Rosenbaum said in a statement. "I hope that I gave you some enjoyment over the years, and that you found my portrayal of Lex Luthor to be satisfying."

A joint statement from "Smallville" executive producers hinted Rosenbaum may still appear as a guest in the upcoming eighth season.

"He is one of the best actors on television and has never failed to bring a new layer to the character of Lex Luthor in every episode. While Michael won't be a series regular and we won't have the pleasure of working with him on a weekly basis this fall, we like to think that we haven't seen the last of Lex Luthor."

Rosenbaum's departure has previously been rumored since producers have been looking for ways to shake up the series and create new challenges for Superman in what might be the show's final season.

One of the new villains is Doomsday, who's notable for killing Superman in the DC Comics Superman universe. Another is a female villain producers describe as "intelligent, brilliantly manipulative, and dangerously sinister" whose "attraction with Clark may prove to be as deadly as kryptonite for him."
Also rumored as a new supervillain is KRYPTORAPECAT_37.

Erica Durance looked like shit tonight. That's who Clark falls in love with eventually?

GIVE ME CHLOE OR GIVE ME DEATH BY STEREO.

DOOMSDAY!?!?!? He's not even Superman yet!

Bet they make a lame version of Doomsday like they did with Mxypltlk. They had all that nonsense with Lana being possessed by a 16th century witch, why couldn't they make him a 5th dimension imp?

My friend has gotten me kind of addicted to Smallville by making me watch most of seasons 3-6.

I can't find when it's on, though :(

Doomsday will probably be a meteor freak with psoriasis.

I just looked up mxyzptlk on the Smallville wiki and dear sweet Rao, they fucked it up.

Tonights ep was utter shit. I can see why so many people complain about it.

If you go back in time and kill a villian (which heros don't do anyway), then whatever they did in the present should be undone, yeah?

Also, if Clark and Kara are both on Krypton, why does one of them have powers and not the other?

Also, why is Clark such a DUMBASS on the show? Sure, he's not a genius in the comic, but he's a pulitzer prize winning reporter and best selling novelist...

"Hey Clark, maybe you should go stop Lex before he takes over your mind!"

"Nah, I'd rather babysit my vegetable girlfriend!"

"Hey Clark, maybe you should go back in time to stop Braniac from killing you while you were a baby!"

"Fuck that! People would be better off without me, and we need to rip off 'It's a Wonderful Life'!"

It was nice to see him in the glasses and with a press pass tho...

It was nice to see him in the glasses and with a press pass tho...

Yeah though they didn't even do that 100% right. He was missing his trademark fedora.

Rosenbaum is probably the best actor on the show and Lex the best character (taking the shitty writing into account) so it's no surpise he's getting off the sinking ship. Why don't they just CANCEL IT?

They can't cancel it!! I've invested too much time into this fucking show, and by god it will end on a good note!!!!!!!!!

NEW SUPERVILLAIN KRYPTONITE MUTATED GARDEN OF EDEN SNAKE! IMMEDIATELY IMAGINES EXTRA CLOTHING ON ALL ATTRACTIVE FEMALE LEADS, SO THEY ALL LOOK LIKE ESKIMOS!

KRYPTORAPEKAT and WonderDog should meet up and fuck the shit out of Clark Kent.

And by fuck, I mean kill him.

Will WonderDog speed-lick his own balls?

Tisiphone: Will he "eat" KrytoRapeCat's hairballs?

They can't cancel it!! I've invested too much time into this fucking show, and by god it will end on a good note!!!!!!!!!

Of course it will! The end of the season always has a mindblowingly cool couple of episodes that make you wonder why you ever doubted it, so the series finale is bound to be insanely good and you'll feel TERRIBLE for ever wanting it to end.

Maybe Jason will return and finally explain why he suddenly teamed up with his mother after being opposed to her for most of the season.

Uh-oh...

Rumor: Chloe next to leave Smallville?
Allison Mack may follow in BFF Kristin Kreuk's footsteps and leave CW's superhero drama, says report.

It's a little too early to call the CW's Smallville the Titanic, but there are definitely some icebergs on the horizon, and those lifeboats are looking awfully comfortable.

The show is currently in its seventh season and has been renewed for an eighth, but next season will look a lot different. The latest crew member rumored to be on the way out is Allison Mack, the fan favorite who plays Chloe Sullivan.

A recent rash of defections from the show has Mack thinking she should do the same, unless producers make staying worth her while, according to TVGuide.com, which cited "inside sources."

"[Smallville producers] need Chloe now more than ever--and Allison's people know it," the source told TVGuide.com. Mack's people are allegedly in negotiations to sign her for next season, and the actress has a ton of leverage on her side.

Smallville producers need her character because two major cast members have already given notice. Michael Rosenbaum, who plays Lex Luthor, officially declared his departure last week, and Kristin Kreuk, who plays Lana Lang and happens to be Mack's best friend in real life, reduced her status to recurring and is moving on to other projects.

And it isn't just actors who are flying away. Early last month, Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar said that this season would be their last. Their roles as show runners and producers were replaced by executive producers Todd Slavkin, Darren Swimmer, Kelly Souders, and Brian Peterson.

Representatives for Mack aren't commenting on the situation, so take the news with a grain of salt. But if Mack does jet, expect Doomsday for Smallville to come a little earlier.

She's about the only thing that makes it worth watching.

I was right about Doomsday, they are making him a tall good looking bartender with a mysterious past.
