Where is the Random Thread of Randomness stuff that doesn't belong in other threads thread?

When's the last time anyone stuck their tongue on a 9 volt battery? Because I picked up a twin pack a week or so ago (12 dollars, jesus), and it seems to me that even though they read correctly on a voltmeter the experience just isn't the same.

It's good to remember he wrote one of the greatest Simpsons episodes of all time!

Funny to learn that George Takei refused to do the episode because he didn't want to "make fun of monorails" and Nimoy wasn't the original choice.

As he says in the commentary, his main inspiration for the episode was The Music Man which he was obsessed with growing up. I remember him talking about this years ago and watched the film off the back of his enthusiasm for it and what do you know, it's fantastic. Well worth watching for those that haven't. Robert Preston was a legend.

Vince McMahon used to say "TROUBLE IN RIVER CITY" on commentary all the time in the mid nineties (probably says something about how out of touch he was with the kids at that time.)

Being a showtune nerd, it never occurred to me that a large swath of the fandom didn't know the source material for the episode.

I performed the show in college (I wasn't Harold Hill but his goofy sidekick Marcellas played by Buddy Hackett in the movie) so I of course had a raging nerd seizure/gay geek boner when the episode came out...

I'm a bit of a showtime nerd too. Mom wouldn't let us try out for sports in high school so I ended up doing band, choir, and drama club. Never got any big parts....I was a kangaroo in Peter Pan FFS.

The Circle of Life. Cooled off enough (with low humidity) that I opened my (screenless) windows. When it got late enough that humidity and mosquitos were an issue, I closed the windows, but The Cat had let himself Out. So as I did other things, I checked for him at the back door. Eventually he was there. Of course at this point The Dog wanted to go Out. Got The Cat In. Checked on The Dog a few times with no luck. It is chestnut season, so she stakes out the chestnut tree. Right now she's on the back deck with a dead groundhog. So far she hasn't wanted to abandon her trophy but eventually I'll have to coax her In. By tomorrow morning there's a decent chance that the local fox will pop in and steal her groundhog.

There's also a chewed up chestnut on the deck that I realized is her doing. She picks them up and crunches the shell off them but is relatively uninterested in the actual meat. I was laying out nuts last night in an attempt to get them to dry until I get around to roasting them and every time I'd leave the stash unattended she'd sneak in and grab a couple.

Leave it to Microsoft to fuck up solitaire. I have decided that, around 2005, software developers realized they'd pretty much made software as good as it could be and no one would need to buy new software so they decided to enshitify future releases to force people to keep buying new software which, in turn, is shittier than the release before it.

A CRISP SANDWICH?? Why are Cancerians always the martyrs of the Zodiac?

Crisps on a tuna sandwich or a bologna sandwich, or a burger, I can see. But just crisps? Why not just serve it on potato bread while you're at it?

Hmm... I rarely check the stats page so I don't remember if this was noticed whenever it happened or not... I don't remember it being a thing, post counts are more of an LBBS vibe... but at some point this year I overtook the 5th spot from Mentalist...

(Now someone will produce a thread from a year ago where I or someone made a big deal of it happening or about to happen, and I've completely blanked it out... I'm like the Lilia Calderu of TK...)

OK. Further testing may be necessary, but it *looks* like if you turn off your Internet it works like the old MS Solitaire, without annoying, intrusive ads.

REUNION WEEK could really shake up the post counts!

Just spent 21 minutes checking my Hotmail. Oh, wait, not I didn't. I just spent 21 minutes fighting with my system because M$ forces OneDrive on you so, despite having something like a terabyte of hard drive on this new machine, Microsoft helpfully stored everything into 5GB of cloud space--and then said I couldn't send or receive Hotmail--I mean Outlook unless I bought more space or freed up some existing space. And made it almost impossible to free up space. I think everything's OK and that I didn't delete any videos of my dead dog. If I did I guess there's not much I can do about it now. Too bad I didn't save them to Photobucket.

Although it looks like M$ does its best to issue updates to keep this from working (judging from the comments).

Speaking of which, I don't know if I mentioned it before, but you probably know that when you buy a new computer, Windows forces you to add it to the Microsoft Network. There was a workaround that involved pressing the F10 key so now they ship computers with the F keys disabled. This makes it fun the first time you try to do PrtSc. Turns out you need to do a search for updates and update your system.

One thing I miss about living in the Pacific NorthWest is if I ever decided I had enough I could make about a 3-4 hour drive up to Redmond and burn the whole M$ campus to the ground. (Or at least as much as I could before the police got me.)
