Hey everyone! Hard to believe it has been twenty years or so since joining Troll Kingdom, dragged here by my Halo buddy SilentBtViolent. After acres of spam, lovely spam, and a lot of shit talkin', it warms my heart to think about all of the fun times had here in the Mine Field.
Let's see, what's up with me... I have two middle school aged daughters and a elementary school age son, my marriage is still going strong (celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary this year as well) and I am holding on to my job in web hosting. It is the longest I have ever lived in one place, with the longest held job to boot.
Settling into middle age, I have just last year been diagnosed with ADHD, which explains A LOT of things, and has made my relationship with my wife much stronger and wiser as we can now point to things and know their cause instead of just wondering if I forgot something just to be an asshole. The meds help a great deal as well.
I am currently hyperfocusing/obsessing over handheld gaming consoles, Android and Linux varieties, and am about to receive an unpatched Switch to experiment with some homebrew on that platform. I have been replaying Final Fantasy VII to satisfy the retro itch, but also really enjoying Cuphead, Breath of the Wild, and Wordless in my Switch emulator, and Cybepunk 2077 on the ol' gaming PC. I tried streaming CP2077 to my handheld and while the stream worked perfectly, I was not used to that game on controller and combat on Very Hard is not very forgiving.
Lastly, I'm singing in my local university's community/student mixed choir, and this semester we are singing Beethoven's 9th symphony, a literal dream come true. I have been listening to this work for 38 years now, and being in the thick of it is a legit, "Finally!" that I am very proud of. I love how the text is very lovey-dovey, all men are brothers, we will kiss the world type stuff, but all shout-sung in a hyper aggressive German heavy-metal orchestral setting. God damn, it is so good.
Believe it or not, I miss you all terribly, and pine for the days of my youth spent at the service desk with many hours to burn on the forum in between calls. At this point in my life, if I am not working at my desk I am cleaning house, picking up/dropping off kids, preparing for the next Scouts meeting, all that adulting shit. I'm grateful to Captain Wacky for keeping me in the roster of old friends to call when there is a reunion, I hope to remain on the roster for many more years to come.
