TV Strange New Worlds season 4

My grandparents were addicted to Y&R. Victor was the best villain.

What was the one with the living ventriloquist doll?

Do you mean Passions? With Juliet Mills as an evil witch and her doll that would come to life as her sidekick?

Heh. Spike. Buffy."PASSIONS is on! Timmy just fell down a well and..." While Giles had him chained up in a bathtub and wouldn't let him watch his stories.

The Cage was on last night. It was a reminder of what SNW could be.

I love The Cage/The Menagerie. Probably among my favorites of the entire thing. Aside from the basic story that Talosian makeup still holds up today.

I watched it for two weeks when I was in Canada (many years ago) and I think probably based on remembering that line from Spike.

My mom watched Y&R but loved Passions; the later being unhinged madness was a point in it's favour when trapped with no veto power over the TV remote.

Trying to get through this episode...

This week's gimmick is, an episode of Star Trek, feels very TOS.

Yeah, it's further evidence to me that Kurtzman can deliver quality ST but often won't.

Pro-tip: when an Admiral and past war hero comes about acting like a fucking tweaker... keep a close eye on him. Fucking Stevie Wonder could have spotted this guy.

George Kirk cannot catch a break.

I liked the episode. The Admiral reminded me of Commodore Decker from TOS.

4.8 - Good episode! Character driven and with two weighty plots! The Admiral breakdown felt very TOS/TNG. M'Benga is going to get demoted because of this but Kirk will do him a favour and bring him back for guest appearances when he's Captain. I vaguely thought maybe the b-plot would somehow end up related to the a-plot but that probably wouldn't have made sense.

It's nice when they bring up Hemmer. I think they killed him off too (I know the actor didn't want to be permanent.)

What the heck? A good episode? I enjoyed the away mission more than the crazy admiral plot.

They did.

Really good episode. It’s been a long while since we had a mad/bad admiral plot and it was really well done.

I think my only reservation was the bridge crew going along with things for too long, but I get that story wise that needed to happen for there to be any tension. I just find it out of character for L’an to overlook rules just because she likes someone (she literally sang a song about that being out of character). At least Spock respectfully refused to mindrape Kirk.

Ortegas being all "wow, you've really increased the destructive power!" felt a bit much, did they did give a Scotty a line where he was like "we're nae actually gonna bomb the laddies, are we" so maybe they all kind of thought the Admiral was bluffing.
