What will be my ONE deal breaking or making issue for a candidate in 2008?

Taxes (including internet taxation)
Education
Health Care
Moral Values
Foreign Policies
Economy
Iraq
Social Security
Abortion
Gay Marriage
Other

All of the above.

I'm considering sitting this election out. I don't feel strongly about any candidate.

Typical Politian’s REAL stance on the issue.

Taxes (including internet taxation)

I shouldn’t have to pay them. But until I can figure out a way to avoid it, lower mine, raise yours. After all, I do all your work, I deserve it.

Education

Why? The dumber the general population, the easier they are to control.

Health Care

I’m healthy. What’s the problem?

Moral Values

BwaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Foreign Policies

If we can’t enslave ‘em, kill ‘em all.

I can afford a 20 million pleasure boat so the economy must be doing great.

See “Foreign Policy”

Social Security

I don’t need it so no one else must either.

Forget free will and personal choice. Those are traits of a free society. And we don’t want that.

Gay Marriage

Absolutely against gods will and I’ll do EVERYTHING within my power to make sure gays are treated as subhuman trash with no rights or privileges’.

(The above being said while the candidate is facing charges of diddling small boys in an airport restroom or some other deviant sexual behavior. Kind of ties in with your typical candidates REAL views on morality.)

I’m all for voting in a generous progressive increase in my pay and benefits package. By 2010, I want to start summering in Switzerland.

Clark dropped out of the 2004 race to support Kerry. He hasn't declared that he will or will not run in 2008 but is still considered a favorite among the potential candidates and he has hinted that he would run in 2008.

Why? Because I'm at an age where I realize I could be one of those old people who doesn't have enough to eat, has to make a choice every month to turn the air or the heat on or go to the doctor and pay for a prescription or two. Because I know my sister worked all her life and paid into the SS system but when she died all there was for her was less than a $1000 to pay for her funeral. All the rest that was taken, not by choice, from her over 30 years stayed in the SS system of no benefit to her family. Because I don't want to be left in the pitiful position of only being allowed what people who don't care about me will allow me to have. Left to the mercy of people who will manage my health care and my finances according to what they feel is important with no regard to what I need or feel is important. Taxed into poverty by people who will take all I've worked for because I've worked for what I have, or because I'm not black or Mexican, or because I grew up with smokers and smoked most of my life, or because they think I weigh too much or not enough, because I have a genetic disorder, or just because I'm old. Killed by people who will decide for me when I am sick or infirm I shouldn't be allowed to live. While that might seem a bit over the top, considering the actions of my fellow Americans, I can't help but worry about how I will survive in my old age.

Why would you depend on SS to take care of you? That's a dead done deal. We still have to pay, put it's completely useless.

Better to deal slices at triple markup, and put the difference after your cut in a CD.

I've got 200 grand put aside just like that.

But I'll be getting 1680 a month when I retire at 62, and itll still be solvent in 9 years.

Mostly because I'm retiring when I'm 57. I plan to live on my municipal retirement plan until I'm 65 then add my pension from my previous employer and SS until I die. I want to keep my savings and other investments as a safety net for illness, property damages not covered by insurance, or other miscellaneous expenses one can't plan for.

Is your house paid for? Is that $1680 a pre-tax or post-tax number?

Another main concern for me is senior health care. My employer has recently reduced the benefits to retirees again. If I retired today, I'd still be alright. However, when I retire it could be a different story.

Obama has some opinions and a voting record that I support in some instances, can live with in some, and totally can not support in others.

One of the issues on which I disagree with him is a deal breaker though. I support the partial privatization of social security. I feel we need the safety net of SS but we also need a system that allows people to have ownership of their retirement plans. In the current system, a person can pay all their lives into a system to which they have no ownership of the funds they are forced to contribute. In a privatized retirement plan, that money belongs to the person who contributed it, it is theirs to spend when it is needed - such as for a catastrophic illness, and it is theirs to leave to their heirs.

I dont have a house, but I have a life lease with rent control.

If Gore decides to run, it's all over anyway :)

Gore could never win.

Other than that he should focus on his kid's problems with drugs and alcohol and not losing another presidential election.

Don't be a dope Laura. You know how obsessed this culture is.

Shoe in, so to speak. All he has to do is lift his little baby finger.

Whitewater Rafting in Greenland this summer. The sky's the limit :)

Well, Mitt Romney (Republican, Governor of Massachusetts) is not looking so hot. He is targeting gay marriage and is apparently dead set against it. I'm not advocating gay marriage but I can certainly understand why two people who make a lifetime commitment to one another would want rights and responsibilities under the law to protect their interests. I'd prefer it be referred to as a civil union. Seems to me there is room and it is time to discuss the legal issues involved and reach an understanding. While same sex marriage is not a big issue for me, it is a deal breaker if the candidate is refusing to even acknowledge that a large sector of our citizens are not being served.
