NBA draft stock watch: Will Ron Harper Jr., Scotty Pippen Jr. follow in dads' NBA footsteps?

Ron Harper Jr.of Rutgers and Scotty Pippen Jr. of Vanderbilt are already household names in the world of basketball, thanks in large part to the way their fathers Ron Harper and Scottie Pippen excelled as teammates for the NBA championship-winning Chicago Bulls of the 1990s. But the younger Harper and Pippen are hardly coasting on name cachet alone -- both college players have very real NBA dreams, and both appeared on ESPN's most recent listing of the top 25 collegiate players of 2020-21. With that in mind, NBA draft experts Jonathan Givony and Michael Schmitz sized up the pro potential of both players, including the similarities and differences to their famous fathers' games.

Three QBs from College Football Playoff among 131 players on official early entry NFL draft list

Ohio State junior quarterback Justin Fields is among 98 players granted special eligibility by the NFL into the league's draft, while national championship-winning QBs Mac Jones from Alabama and Trevor Lawrence from Clemson are among another 30 players eligible after completing their degrees and deciding not to play more in college. Those 128 players, plus three more who inquired about their draft status but didn't need special eligibility, were on the NFL's official list released Friday as available to be drafted after giving up their remaining college eligibility. The 131 total players is 11 more than last year, but still below the record 132 two years ago. Fields, Jones and Lawrence, three of the starting quarterbacks from the four-team College Football Playoff earlier this month, had previously said publicly they were moving on to the NFL. The draft is April 29-May 1 in Cleveland. They accounted for half of the six quarterbacks on the early entry list. The others are Zach Wilson after leading BYU to an 11-1 season, Stanford's Davis Mills and Trey Lance, who led FCS powerhouse North Dakota State to a national title a year ago.

Former Clemson Tigers QB Trevor Lawrence shows adaptability in early pro day workout

Former Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence had good reason to hold his pro day on Friday, a month early. Lawrence wanted to prove to NFL teams that he's able to handle himself well when things don't go according to plan. "The original plan was to have two months training out in California, then come back March 11th and put on a show and do all that, but life happens sometimes," Lawrence said on the ACC Network/ESPN2 following his 45-minute workout at Clemson on Friday. "Just having to adjust and showing I'm able to adjust and adapt and still willing to come out here and throw and give teams a chance to see me, that was important to me and important to my team to make sure we made that happen. Thirty-one people from 17 NFL teams were scheduled to attend the workout, including three from theJacksonville Jaguars: head coach Urban Meyer, offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and passing game coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. The Jaguars own the top pick in the April 29 draft and Meyer spent almost the entire workout standing alongside Clemson coach Dabo Swinney several yards from Lawrence.
