I want to smell dark matter
PROLOGUE

Natalie knew the man had been following her for at least ten minutes. She didn't want him to know she knew. She kept walking, but sped up just a little. He kept coming. There was no one else around and he was coming faster...then a car drove by. She thought of flagging it down. She looked behind her and the man has seemingly disappeared. The car stopped.

"Hey, are you okay?" said a guy about her age, sitting in the car.

"Yeah...I thought someone was following me...but he's gone now..."

"You live in my street, right? I could give you a lift just to be safe..."

She looked at him closely. She did not recognise him.

"No thanks, it's not far now, I'll just walk."

"Are you sure? ARE YOU SURE?" His sudden outburst naturally startled her and she took a few steps back. He laughed. His face started to go white, impossbily white until it seemed to be cracking...what was happening?

Then the stalker grabbed her from behind and pulled her through the bushes.

"Run," he said and, without thinking, she did. She ran with him until they were far away from the road and deep into the woods. She finally saw his face. He wasn't actually much older than her, but he looked terrible.

"Who are you? Why are you following me?"

"I'm trying to keep you safe. Trust me."

"What was that...guy? His face..."

"He was an alien," said the stalker, seriously.

"Oh, right, of course," said Natalie, laughing almost hysterically. "And I suppose you're, what, Doctor Who?"

"The character's name is just The Doctor, not Doctor Who," he said. "And I'm human."

"Right..."

"But he's not," he said, pointing at a glowing white shape coming towards them through the woods...it did not look human, but she could still see the smile on that white face, an evil twisted smile... "Run for your life!"

It's a magic cat from beyond the moon!

Natalie should be in everything.

They ran, again. They ran so far that Natalie just wanted to stop, even if it mean the glowing man would catch her. But they didn't stop. They ran beyond the point of all reason. Then they stopped.

"Right!" said the stranger, enthusiastically. "You did well there."

"What...what...what was that thing?" asked Natalie, collapsing into a sitting position.

"A Glower," said the stranger, smiling.

"Why are you smiling? Who ARE you?"

"I'm just a man, Natalie. A man who wants to help you."

"I've seen you before...I'm sure of it. Watching me."

"Yeah, I have been. You're very special." He tried to take her hand and she recoiled.

"This is...this is all a trick! To get me out here! You're some kind of pervert!" The stranger laughed.

"No, my sexual appetites are pretty normal...I don't get to indulge them as often as I would like, it is true, but that goes for many. Natalie, my interest in you isn't sexual."

"Oh."

"Disappointed?"

"No!"

"If you say so. Natalie, you are a very special person..."

"So you keep saying. But I want to know what YOU are and how you know so much about me...or claim to anyway."

"I'm nothing, Natalie. A nobody. There's nothing special about me. I'll be forgotten as soon as I die, while you will be remembered for as long as human beings live in the universe. And that's the way I like it. I exist for you, to help you reach your destiny. That is my only purpose. Now, about you..."

"IT'S HIM!" She pointed to the Glower, who was now walking towards them again, still smiling.

"Oh yeah, nearly forget. Yeah, you see, you were right, this was all a trick. You see, the Glower works with me."

Oh.. he's tricksy.

So tricksy. He's been schooled by them hobbits and no mistake.

More.

"I knew it!" said Natalie as the Glower walked up to the Stranger and they shook hands. "Why did you bother making me run all this way? Just for the thrill of it? Terrorising me?"

"Well, terrorising you was part of it, I'll admit," said the Stranger.

"That's mean, Frank," said the Glower.

"Frank? What the FUCK is going on? NO, ANSWER ME THIS TIME. Don't just smile. If you're going to do something to me, do it, but if not, TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON."

"Hey, don't ask me, he's the one in charge," said the Glower. "Do you want me to assume human form? Would that make you feel better?"

"You're not human," she said, as if stating a fact. She had actually accepted it now.

"I'm from the moon," said the Glower, as his appearance shifted back to that of the guy who had been in the car.

"You're from the moon...right. You work for...for him? For Frank? FRANK?"

"What's wrong with the name Frank!" said Frank, throwing his arms in the air.

"I landed here about ten years ago...met up with Frank here. He's one of the few humans who actually knows what's really going on. Nice guy. Not very social with his fellow humans, but a glower's best friend!" said the Glower, then patted Frank on the back.

"And what is going on?" asked Natalie.

"Look, you've probably been through enough for tonight," said Frank, stepping forward. "This was just a bit of a test, to get you ready. I had the Glower chase you..."

"Doesn't he have a name? Is he just the Glower?" interrupted Natalie.

"Actually, my people don't have names," said the Glower. "Given that there's only two of us."

"Uhh...oh," said Natalie.

"You'll meet the other one eventually," said Frank. "As I was saying before I was intterupted - and it is good that you interrupted by the way, shows how bright you are - I had him chase you to kind of get you ready."

"For what?"

"For, well, running from aliens. You're going to be doing a lot of it in the near future."

Natalie on the run!

He's from the Moon! Weh hey! Excellent!

Now simply have him assume cat form and such!

Frank is a jerk.

"I'm going to be...what? No...what is this? I was walking home from the bus...just back from work...no, I was going to work...no, I was just back from college...I can't even..." Natalie felt like crying but didn't want to in front of Frank and Glower.

"It's okay, it's a lot to take in," said Frank.

"I was walking...you were following me...now I'm here..."

"Is there something wrong with her brain?" asked Glower. "She appears to have forgotten all you told us. Is this some human defence mechanism? You people are truly remarkable, we have nothing like this, my wife and I...we see things how they are. This is..."

"SHUT UP!" screamed Natalie. "I was walking home. Then you two appeared and started talking nonsense. Well, I've listened to what you have to say...and I want to go home now. Please, take me home."

"It might not be safe..." started the Glower, but Frank put up a hand to tell him to stop.

"Sure, Natalie," he said. "We'll take you home. It might have felt like you were running for a long time, but it's not that far. We'll walk with you."

"Okay," said Natalie. And the three walked in silence, until they returned to the road. "I know where I am now," said Natalie. "I can walk home myself from here."

"Natalie, we need to meet again," said Frank.

"No," she said and just walked. He watched her go.

"You should stop her," said Glower.

"It can wait until tomorrow. As long as you watch her tonight. Make sure nobody gets in to her house. If you see anyway, contact me."

"Of course," said Glower. He then turned into a floating ball of light and flew off in the direction Natalie had went.

Oh.. well I can't decided if they're evil or not.

It should have been a cat, IMHO. Perhaps I am merely impatient on the glowing magic cat from the Moon front.

Natalie tried to forget. She thought if she just acted as normal, acted as though nothing had happened, then her life could go on as if nothing had happened. She ate dinner. She watched television. She updated her myspace. She played Wii. She went to bed.

She couldn't sleep. She couldn't stop thinking about them, about Frank and the Glower. And the strage thing was, it was Frank who had disturbed her more than the glowing man that claimed to be from the moon. Everything he had said had been said with such conviction. She was going to be running from aliens and soon. Every little noise she heard became aliens. Then she heard a big noise. A banging. She sat up, pulling the sheets closer to her. She could see her own reflection in the mirror at the bottom of her bed. She looked pathetic! She angrily threw the sheets aside. No more! She stood up and threw the curtains open.

There was a ball of glowing light hovering right outside her window. It passed through the glass. She backed away. It took form. It was the Glower.

"It's not safe here," he said. "They've come for you, earlier than even Frank predicted they would. You have to leave, now."

"I'm not going anywhere! This is insane! Who's here?"

"The Gloogpop!"

"Uh huh...the Gloogpop...sure..."

Another banging, this one louder. Natalie was startled.

"My parents!"

"They'll ignore them, Natalie. They'll come straight for you. Come on, you must go."

"If these...PopGloog..."

"Gloogpop."

"If they're downstairs, how will we get by them?"

"Open your window."

"What?"

"Do it, Natalie, there isn't much time."

She opened her bedroom window.

"Now what?"

The Glower turned back to energy, abruptly, and flew all around her. Natalie felt herself lifting off the floor. And in her head she heard the Glower's voice, telling her everything would be okay.

She felt sick.

I think I like the Glower.

Hot Glower/Natalie sex in the future methinks, to Frank's utter annoyance and jealously. I think Frank's a utter twat.

Then she felt like her body was coming apart. The glass was getting closer...then she could see at all. Couldn't feel. There was nothing. Then she was outside. Flying, surrounded by the Glower. Then landed in a field not far from her house.

"What did you just do?!" she said, before he'd even taken form again.

"Enveloped you. Turned you into light like me so you could move through solid objects."

"You...you had no right..."

"I saved your life."

"They'll be coming after us, surely...we aren't even far away..."

Without warning, the house exploded.

"They won't be coming after us," said the Glower.

"MY PARENTS! FUCK! WHAT...NO!"

"They're okay, don't worry. Frank would have moved them out before he set off the bomb. I'm fairly sure he would have anyway..."

"Frank...blew up my house?"

"Of course. The only way to make sure all the Gloogpop were killed."

"But the house next door is on fire now! And my parents...where are they?"

"I'll put out that fire, don't worry. And look, there your parents are, with Frank." And indeed they were standing not far from the house. Natalie tried to run to them, but the Glower tooked soild form in front of her.

"I'm afraid you can't run to them anymore, Natalie."

"Get out of my way!"

"Natalie, Frank and I are trying to help you. You will understand that soon enough..."

"How do I know!? You chase me into the woods, tell me about...about aliens coming for me! Fuck! You blow up my house! How am I supposed to know you're the good aliens and the Googleplexes or whatever they're called are the bad ones?"

"Natalie, I did just save you from them..."

"Oh yeah? You can, what, shape-shift or whatever? You dissolved me into light or something and move me through solid glass? So why didn't you go downstairs and and...I don't know, turn all the Gloogpops into light and kill them? If you can change the state of matter?"

"You're quick. Good reasoning. But I knew Frank would take care of them."

"I don't know why I'm standing here talking to you when...my parents, where are they going? They don't know I'm safe and they're going away in that car."

Frank walked towards them now.

"Your parents are fine, Natalie. But it has been necessary to alter their memories."

"What?" she asked.

"They can't remember you're their daughter. Don't worry, when this is over, I'll correct them."

Natalie punched Frank in the face.

I am still unsure about Frank but I think Glower is glowy.

Alrighty! Take that, Frank, you cocknose!
