A question about "world of warcraft"?

The kid whats me to buy it for him, can you play any part of the game offline? Or is it an online only game?

He plays warcraft3 TFT online but there is no subscription to play it.

He gets out of school soon and deserves a reward. Any other games like warcraft that you folks like and can play online without a paid subscription?
 
Thank you, Neverwinter Nights is an atari product. thats cool. I will check it out. I am also looking at age of empires III.
 
Thanks again, Wednesday the kid is out of school, we will sit down and surf to see what he likes best then go get it. We have waited for the new zelda for the game cube but thats will be out by x-mas.

the kids computer is a 2 gh p4, 480 meg of ram 32 meg video shared ram, 60 gig hd. it was kicking a few years back, now its not so hot.
 
I'd avoid WoW (World of Warcraft). Seems to attract the most ill-mannered OGers (online gamers).

CoH/CoV is good (City of Heroes/Villains).

Avoid SWG and TMO (Star wars Galaxies and The Matrix Online).
 
WoW will end up killing any sort of desire the young lad has to do anything away from the computer. I have friends that liken WoW to cigarettes. You know you should quit, you want to quit, you're going to quit, but you don't.

Plus as Cranky mentioned the subculture is a little odd. Sure, there are nice folk out there to game with but there are also a great deal of schmucks. And they like to say "lol" a lot.

Unfortunately WoW, Oblivion, and CoH/CoV is too much for your PC. Neverwinter Nights, however, is right in there.
 
cool, depending on the game if it is in a pc and x box platform , I will pick the x-box game for the kid. He is a total prick online at warcraft3 so ill-mannered people wont bug him at all. I know he wants an online game.

my pc will play most anything (the kid never touches my computer), he has the old the P4 2gh with the 32 meg sis-650 video. 480 megs of ram. I still think it will play CoH. 2 gig sticks of ram and a video card and he would be just fine with that box. Im not ready to sink money into his box right now.

thanks for the info, Im still shopping around so any input is welcome and him and I will surf all the games posted and will run on his pc with him and let him pick. I may see if I can find a Neverwinter Nights demo.
