I generally consider anything after 7 to be noncanon, for a variety of reasons. But if they pulled it off in tasteful way, and not in a 'Hi we're going to make money off your deep enjoyment of what was once a great series of games' way.
 
Final Fantasy has lost its way something chronic. Some people say FFIII was the best of the series, and while III was an excellent game it's only twats that want to sound as if they're being oldschool who say this. VII is the undeniable crown of the FF series. It's simply put an awesome title and one of the best games ever made. The story was excellent and it's just one of those things that should be played by everybody.

Advent Children is nowhere near on par story wise with the game but the movie is for the FANS of VII.It doesn't bother inroducing characters and it doesnt' bother explaining the back story which is refreshing. I really enjoyed Advent. It was fun, it was gorgeous to look at and it was another chance to hang out with the characters again.


The final fight with Cloud and Sephiroth is jaw dropping and there is no other way to describe it.

The 2 dvd version I'm keeding has a Prequel movie to the game!

Do tell. I have a ripped subbed Divx so I havent' seen any extras. A prequel to VII? I take it it isn't a full indepth game but more a mini adventure to play through? Have you had a chance to take a gander yet?


Even though SquareEnix has said it won't be remaking FFVII for the PS3 I still pray it happens. The FFVII tech demo on the PS3 looks the same as Advent Children! The graphics are awe-fucking-some. A remake of FFVII would be huge, the value undeniable.

Lets hope.
 
I don't like calling one better over the other. Not everyone knows Squaresoft's story. It was supposed to be their last game (Final Fantasy), but it turned out to be a hit.

There's an unspoken rule about each FFverse being totally isolated from another, and this makes it even more difficult for me to prefer one over the other. I thought putting the Excalibur in multiple games was fine, but when 8 tried to rehash everything, well.... it's like they couldn't think of anything new. I mean for god's sake, I found the gameboy FFs and Mystic Quest more involving (Not to mention better music).

I've made no attempt at procuring any of the new ones, aside for XI, which turned out to be the typical crap MMORG which you have to invest hours and money into. But if Advent Children is getting good reviews then I think I'm going to get my hands on a copy.

It's funny when you ask them if they ever played FFII (IV), or even the first one. They sort of look at their feet and put their hands in their pockets.
 
LOL, too true. I used to leave the FFII title screen up and drift off to sleep to the opening music way back when. That music was theraputic and relaxing.
 
What Mentalist said about Advent Chindren is right on.
Not much of a grandiose plot, Cloud isn't really participating, more being strung along by events.
It IS more just for fans, the CGI is stunning, Kind of like a VH1, There Are they Now segment.
I personally thought they should have done more with the Materia.

I'm still wondering, How does Cloud's swords fit into the side panels of his motorcycle? All of them?

And Menty, I haven't gotten them in the mail yet.
