Aliens/Predator Universer (AvP:R)

Okay, so I finally saw AVP:R the other day.

So if I'm understanding everything correctly, Weyland and Yutani both come into contact wtih Predator technology which is what propels humanity to the stars and gives all the great technology we see in the Aliens universe.

Heres the thing, the only functioning piece of equipment is a working Predator laser weapon. From this and a few scraps of wreckage humans are able to build star ships, robots and lasers. OH WAIT, NO THEY DON'T HAVE FUCKING LASER RIFLES. THE ONE PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY THEY ARE GIVEN THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE.

Am I missing something is that a huge freaking plot hole?!?!

There was ANOTHER Predator movie? I thought there was Predator, Predator II, and Predator: Requiem. That's it.

None of the AVP movies had anything to do with the comics so I never saw the point of following any type of continuety whatsoever.

Predator, Predator II, Aliens v Predator (the one in the Antarctican Temple), and then the new(ish) Aliens v Predator Requiem. The first AvP sets up the whole Predalien theme of AvP:R.

Was the main plot not the same? You know the whole Aliens were breed as prey by the Predators shit?

Maybe they've got the basic technology to build laser rifles, but they haven't got the right materials or power sources required to make them small enough or efficient enough to be effective alternatives to conventional weapons?

By the time of AVP, Predator technology has had thousands of years to evolve, at the very least. Humans can't be expected to catch all the way up in only a few hundred, not without any outside help.
 
I'm kinda sure they have lasers in the Alien universe. Let us read from the book of Hudson.

"Hey Ripley, don't worry. Me and my squad of ultimate badasses will protect you! Check it out! Independently-targeting particle beam phalanx. Vwap! Fry half a city with this puppy. We got tactical smart missiles, phase-plasma pulse rifles, RPGs, we got sonic e-lectronic ball-breakers! We got nukes, we got knives, sharp sticks..."
