Yeah, the first season (Jack the Ripper copycat who obsesses over the details as much as the main character does about the position of the pens on his desk) was really good, but subsequently they seem to have been reusing that idea quite a lot.
The latest ones are still pretty good, but the plots get more far-fetched and the characterisation makes less sense.

I think it's up to three now, but they're only miniseries. The first two seasons were one story each over a handful episodes, while the most recent season was maybe three two-part stories over six episodes.
