Back when we were doing APA's and stuff like Shiot Crock, I think I was still at Comicon at the time, because there was this woman comics writer.critic,journalist who made some comment in a thread about going after a guy with a Belt Sander on his dick for the misogynist comments he was making in one of her review threads. Pretty sure it was Hellman she was responding to with the comment As usual at Comicon shit went off the rails almost immediately and I was inspired to create an APA which I aptly named "Belt Sander", and it took off, running 5 issues.
APA stands for "Amateur Press Association" which created the original idea. Everyone contributed a page or two of original work, art, fiction, photography, whatever. All the art was mailed to one person who was the designated "publisher" along with a small amount to cover the postage to mail the copies back to the artist. The "publisher" created the book, copying the pages, binding them into a book. The copies were limited to the amount of contribtors involved so they were very limited and rare.
I always liked to have a little something extra in mine, so I got Neil (who was also Morbo and Kerb Crawler here at TK) to create these "Morbo for President" buttons. Only 40 exist.
Danny Hellman had the cover for the issue this button was included with, and the whole project was pretty cool.
This one came out in October of '03 or '04, I'll have to find the book to verify the date, but it was COOL.
