Been working on the ship for the last few days.

The design of the ship is pretty cool. It's really the explosion that could do with more work, but they're tricky to do. Maybe try making an explosion from scratch using Particle Illusion?

Particle Illusion has lots of preset explosion effects you can tinker with and it doesn't really take any time to learn. You can download the trial on their site.
