Being paid to Quit

Just like GM. It's amazzing. The part time job in a supermarket that I have held for almost 20 years now. The place i work 8 hours a week and provides medical for my whole family, pays for daycare and lots of other goodies is offering $20,000 to anyone with 10 years of service who quits.

What is this country coming to??

Sad news indeed, DS. But it is the way corporate America is run these days. Now if you are of a certain age group you are fired for being too old, too slow and too expensive because you've shown loyalty for staying on for so many years. And it is very hard to find another job when you are considered too old in this youth driven job market.

But I am curious as to how a parttime job for 8 hours a week can provide all these benefits? Most parttime jobs I know of provide none of these benefits.

I think saying you worked 8 hours a week is a stretch, don't you?

I work the same second job as DS, but I don't have 10 yrs. of service, so I can't take the buyout. They are instituting a minimum hours policy to receive benefits: 14. You need to work only 14 hours a week to get benefits. But I'm not exactly crying, since we're planning on having another kid in 2007.

Let's see, daycare for 2 kids would be about $375 per week. With the union job, I'll pay $60 per week. Healthcare, even through wifey's job, would be about $100 per week. I pay $0 per week. Oh, and at $12 with 14 hrs guaranteed, I'll gross about $168 per week. So, in exchange for working 14 hours (on top of my regular 50-hour week at my "real" job) I'll "make" about $583 per week!

Why the hell would I ever quit until my kids are outta daycare?? Ain't America great??

Labor unions, like the ACLU are completely insignificant now and are basically just a mafia like organization. I hate labor unions.

Fuck you are stupid. It is a genius move. A one-time cost. No pensions to worry about. No more medical. Grow a fucking brain you MORON. This is the smartest thing a company could ever do. It is people like you who forced them to do this.

Yet you and your ilk are the reason the 'mighty' USA is dying. You are bleeding corporations dry, then turn around and complain when they decide to ship jobs overseas. If you wish to understand why such corporations contract out your job, look in the mirror.

The ACLU is not a fucking labour union you piece of shit. I knew you are stupid but this is completely ridiculous. Every single Canadian knows the fucking ACLU is not a labour union. OMMFG this ugly, fat cunt is incredibly stupid. It is annoying to see such stupidy. It injures my brain.

Once again you fail the Canadian school system. My statement reads, "Labor unions, like the ACLU, etc..." I did not say anything about the ACLU being a union, oh slow one.

Damn Fuggs, your fury is evident.

When you say it as you have above, you are in fact claiming the ACLU is a labour union. When you state as follows: 'labour unions, like the ACLU are completely...' you are in fact presenting an example of one labour union. Don't try to bullshit me bitch. You erred. At least have the balls to admit to your error and stupidity.

I'm sorry, I thought the title said, "Being paid to Quilt"

Your mistake was leaving out the comma between "ACLU" and "are"...though I knew exactly what you meant. ;)

I read somewhere recently that only about 30% of American jobs are actually unionized. Can't remember where I read it though.
