A 'Buffy' movie without Joss Whedon? It could happen

The good news is, the executive producers of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" are considering making a movie that would relaunch the franchise. The bad news is, they haven't involved creator Joss Whedon in the discussions.

Take your pick as which side outweighs the other.

The discussions are in a pretty early stage, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, "Buffy" rights holders Fran Rubel Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui are talking with production company Vertigo Entertainment ("The Grudge," "The Lake House") about rebooting the franchise, apparently taking seriously the notion of a slayer being born into each generation.

The catch: Whedon, who created the character for a 1992 movie and re-imagined it for what would become one of the more fanatically loved TV series of the past couple of decades, isn't involved at all, at least not yet. The HR says the Kuzuis and Vertigo principals Roy Lee and Doug Davison are talking with writers and "do not rule out" Whedon's involvement, but they've not yet "reached out" to him.

Whedon is about to head into the second season of "Dollhouse" for FOX and also co-wrote horror flick "Cabin in the Woods," which is due for release early next year.

Fran Rubel Kuzui bought Whedon's "Buffy" movie script and ended up directing the movie that starred Kristy Swanson and Luke Perry, while her husband arranged financing for the movie and was one of its producers. They were also executive producers of the TV series that cemented "Buffy's" place in pop culture.

I dunno...

We posted this at the same time meaning some kind of SEXUAL PSYCHIC LINK!?

Hopefully this will get as far as the stargate sequel movie that was going to ignore the series

Didn't that turn into Independance Day or was that just an URBAN LEGEND?

A little from column A, a little from column B.

That was the first "sequel" idea, but they have been mooting it again in the last few years when SG1 ended.

hmmmm is right.
I'm gonna wait and see on this one....

Fran Rubel Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui have been sitting pretty on Buffy royalities for ages now, and now the shows have stopped they need more money, hence this.

Nothing good will come of this without Joss Whedon. Joss Whedon is Buffy.

Fuck them all I hope they all die in a fiery plane crash ect, ect....

Sylvester Stallone has already been cast as Giles.

Someone at TrekBBS said "ironically the only way SMG will do Buffy again is if Whedon ISN'T involved" trying to make out there's some feud between them. ANY TRUTH TO THAT?

They seemed fine at the Buffy Reunion in '07.

So another TrekBBS liar then!

PM T'Bonz and tell on them!

Yeah, too bad David Boreanaz is off doing Bones.

he and Nathan Filion seem to be the only ones who lucked out with a TV series after Buffy.

Hannigan has that "Mother" thing, Anthony Head works regularly in many shows over here.

Xander has a bit part on Criminal Minds.

I hear the girl who played Dawn has been up to some stuff but I wouldn't know much about it.

ah! thanks for the updates everyone, - good to know some of the other cast members are working regularily. Other than castle,Bones and the odd Dollhouse show, I havent seen any of the Buffy gang on TV lately.
I wonder what that girl who played Dawn IS doing these days, now you mention it, Tomtrek....?
