Bush Says Signs Show Stimulus Plan Is Working to Boost Economy

President George W. Bush said the administration is seeing signs that the economic stimulus is beginning to work and urged Congress to make permanent his tax cuts.

Sometimes, you just wish his handlers would muzzle him, rather than have him make a statement which is so completely ridiculous.

How on earth does Bush say this with a straight face, (presumably) knowing that the dollar is in free-fall, oil prices are up to $139.01 per barrel ($11.22 cents over yesterday's price), and unemployment has hit 5.5%?

Politicians are professional liars. Their job is to cover their own asses so they don't get lynched and to keep the populace dumb, calm and fed so a real panic doesn't break out. That would make things even worse (by several magnitudes).

Of course, at this point it's kind of like sticking your fingers in a leaking dam, but every day counts I suppose.

Hasn't this stimulus package been done a few times before in history? And every time this has been attempted, the resutl's stil the same about the economy not picking up and more people using that money on bills and gas instead of spending. I know the 00 bucks I got will for the most part go towards paying off the only credit card with a balance that I have (Thankfully, the balance is 375, so only a fraction is out of my own pocket).
