I've been hanging onto this place by my fingernails for the better part of a year, attempting to find --as well as bring-- some LULZ to the joint and enjoying about as much success as a monkey playing darts. I was even, on occasion, moved to lament the sad state of affairs here in threads such as this one.*

Now that Gagh, Messenger, Conchaga, & Big Dick McGee seredipitously saw fit to visit their old stomping grounds all around the same time, I hope they'll stick around and make this place the sintering plant of mishegoss, pungency and (at times) esprit it was when I first wandered through.

At least for the summer.

To be honest, that whole thread creeped me out. Nostalgia be damned. Don't let the by-gones be what was the best. Make something new. Don't yap on about how "these old posters did this"; and this place would be better if"... blah, blah, blah... If you want this board to be interesting, do so yourself or leave. Don't talk about others doing it. If you did that, you're no better than the fat, drunken, old guy sitting three rows behind you at a sporting event and yelling about how the player should be better, etc. He can't do better. He could make things better by just shoving another hot dog in his face so we all have a moment of peace from his mediocre fat mouth.

Point is: You want this place livened-up, get off your ass and get creative. Have fun at others' expense. And above all, don't take shit from the other guy.

I do believe that some personalities are better than others, so wishing things were like they were in the past is understandable.

I've only seen invasions and drama liven the place up. Many posters here are so fundamentally lazy, entertainment needs to be delivered on a silver platter. Such people do not deserve the creativity of anyone with vision extending beyond spam and vapid insult posts. They'll never learn if not deprived of their training wheels, and that won't happen. If twice as many as those entertainers who carry the weight put in just a smidgen of effort there'd be more life to go around, but for the most part, the creative can set up a private, one-person forum and entertain themselves with similar results.

Because at the core, people simply enjoy the company here, they'll always incorrectly believe that some event can jump start a self-sustaining chain of activity. Improving upon this or that (Arcade, forum layout, troll exploits) never amounts to anything because it doesn't touch that core. Those things are less about improvement and more about changing the papers to keep the cage from becoming a complete dump anyway.

How is that relevant? Well, because this place is at its core a place to socialize, and as once stated, a board of anarchy can hold only so many members, all attempts to expand in any way are doomed to failure. You hold a limited number of cards in poker and quality is determined by luck of the draw. TK has drawn a tolerable deck of personalities for the moment, but unfortunately, larger personalities are harder to procure and have steadily been replaced by retards such as Dork Lord and [you], contaminating the deck and wasting valuable space in the limited line-up.



...but if you like stalking a particular person, encountering a really funny post once in a while, or friendly care-bears socializing, TK is for you. If you want anything more than that, you're out of luck!

Me? But I haven't been around lately. Why are you mixing me in with dork lord?

It's just a shame that of those you chose to list, only Sardonica has arguably been worth spit to TK.

I actually forgot I didn't post here & locked my account out for close to 6 months before reading this. That's how sad it is.

I missed out on a lot of Sardy, and obviously can't go back and appreciate him now. What made him worth more than others?
 
He was a proper troll, he posted intelligently pretty much all the time & he actually cared about the place. When he had his own forum, much of what he posted about I found genuinely interesting.

What's more he's kept his word unlike many of us who flounce out & leave forever. Have you seen him come back, with the exception of one post right after deleting all the others?

We're all like flies round shit with TK. At least he had the good grace to stick to his guns with his decision.

TK circa 2002-03 as great. The 'scandals' would round for weeks, and would see numerous people bitchfighting in intelligent fashion. I can't help but feel the dumbing down began the moment I registered ;)
 
No, gagh, the dumbing-down happened when you, Joker, Retro, myself, and a few others started spam bombing TK.
 
So, it had its desired effect then?

Retrotrek & Soma were spamming the TK before us. Retrotrek was the first to adopt the Mine Field as a place of residence.
