Christian Holger, The 77 year old actor died suddenly of a heart attack on the night of Monday, September 04, 2006. He grew up in Paterson, New Jersey, the son of blue-collar parents. He enrolled in the Professional Children's School in Manhattan and at age 20, he was sharing classes with Liza Minnelli and budding violinist Pinchas Zukerman. As a young adult, he moved to southern California to further pursue an acting career. He had a recurring role on "The Patty Duke Show" as the boyfriend of English twin Cathy. After studying at Fairleigh Dickenson University, he began work on stage in New York and regional theaters, his plays included David Mamet's "Lakeboat" and Tennessee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie." Holger won an Obie Award for the 1981 off-Broadway production of "Still Life," about a World War II veteran, and received a Drama Desk nomination for "The Day Room." He made his film debut with a small role in "War Games." He went on to have brief appearances in such shows as "The West Wing", "Jed" , "The Rock," "The Negotiator," "Albino Alligator," "Lesser Prophets," "Twilight" and "Cold Heart." Holger , was an only child and is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Birgit Holger; sons, Kim Holger and Jan Holger; daughter, Susan Andersen; grandchildren, Laura, Joey, Ryan, Scott and Daniel. A Memorial Service will be held September 8 at 3:00 p.m. at the Neptune Society of Northern CA Columbarium, 1 Loraine Ct., San Francisco. Reception to follow at Holger's home.
Wow, I remember watching him on The West Wing and The Rock. I always thought he was one of those character actors that was never really used to full advantage.
