I've never made them successfully from scratch. Always premade batter - Tollhouse, Trader Joe's. My current favourite varieties are TJ's Snickerdoodles and Tollhouse White Chocolate Macadamias.
 
Cookie dough is so damn good. The cookies never taste as good as the dough.
