Costa Rica

Have you been there?

What do you think of Costa Rica?

If I decide to retire there, can I make them put everything in English for me?

Is it really that cheap to live there? If so, I could retire right now. The jungles are close to the beaches. Are their wildcats in the jungle?

Tell me what you know about Costa Rica, please. Thanks in advance.

Beautiful country, but they have cockroaches the size of newborn babies.

If you are afraid of large bugs, you might not want to move there.

I've found several retirement communities - cost of living is about $1,000 a month for a 2 bedroom patio home, housekeepers, utilities (gas, electric, water, phone) and entertainment costs.

Bugs don't bother me unless they are fast and sting. Otherwise I can squash them and it not be on my conscious.

Considering they cater to retired Americans, there are probably plenty of people who speak English fairly well. I was just being mean. I'm tired of the Mexicans in America demanding everything be in Spanish for their convenience. If a person wants to learn Spanish, then fine and good. But, when I go to the chicken joint in America and order chicken and it takes 3 people to handle my order at the window because only one of them speaks English, that is fucked up.

I wouldn't move to a foreign country if I didn't learn the language or intend to learn their language.

I don't know if you've noticed but there's a good chance that the chefs at most of your favorite restaurants don't speak English as a first language. Give you three guesses what their real first language is.

I moved to Italy and inside of six months I was carrying on conversations with enough acuity as to make the Italians believe that I was actually from Italy (my dialect = Fiorentina & Calabrese). Most Italians were honestly surprised when I told them I was really American.
