Data can't use contractions, yet...

I want to smell dark matter
...he can read a son's last letter to his mother in the son's exact voice. But he can't use contractions. So if the son had used "can't" in the letter, would Data have ruined the illusion by using "can not" when reading it to the mother?

DATA NOT BEING ABLE TO USE CONTRACTIONS IS FUCKING STUPID.
 
I'm watching the Season One reruns too :)

Some of them aren't too bad. I'd forgotten how fit Marina Sirtis was back then.
 
I just assumed he could read what is written, like the word "can't" or whatever. It's in his program to use proper pronunciation when speaking though. But i understand what you are saying Wackadoodle! :)

I'm watching various episodes right now. I don't think i could sit through the entire season 1 episodes, but like you said, "some of them aren't too bad".

She wasn't significantly more fit back then, they just made her bind it all up with lycra everywhere.

This is why actors renegotiate their contracts after a few years. "Party 1 will heretofore be required to girdle up 15% less than in previous seasons without facing contract breach penalties."
 
Fit as in attractive, not fit as in able to run marathons. Sirtis was about the same age as I am now when they started TNG. She looks great in Season 1. She looks even better when she's in a proper Starfleet uniform around Season 6, and the camera hangs around for her arse to pass it when she crawls about in Jefferies Tubes.

The only thing about S1 Troi (& Beverly) is the gawd-awful hairdos. Also the way they applied make-up on them with a trowel. It took them a couple of seasons to get them to stop looking like overaged regulars at Studio 54.
 
I'm pretty sure Data did use contractions a few times when the writers werent paying attention.

I was just looking Marina Sirtis up on wiki, she is 55 years old now!! :shock: How did this happen?

Hard to believe it's been almost 25 years since the debut of TNG. Time needs to start slowing down IMO.
 
I just watched that entire episode on Youtube and THERE WAS NOTHING SEXY ABOUT TROI!

Admittedly, the lubricated anal probe scene where Beverley Crusher examined Troi while she bent over a console was reasonably exciting, was that it?
 
Data can create a daughter who is able to use contractions but somehow can't write a "contraction subroutine" for himself!?
