His book was much better in the book where he just stayed on his pyre (why would he have ran away anyway when he was TRYING TO KILL HIMSELF?) holding the palantir and whenver anyone tried to look into the palantir afterwards all they'd see was a pair of withered, burnt old hands.

I really wanted that scene at Orthanc where Wormwood hucks the palantir at Gandalf & company and it bounces off the stairs --causing the "indestructible" stone the stairs are made of to explode in shards.
