Diaries of a message board administrator

Marquis De Sade

I came for the spankings
I like it how the administrators of such websites as WordForge and ExIsle try portray to their job as an extremely difficult one, and adopt a ridiculously authoritarian attitude, fitting of a tyrant ripped straight from a Frank Miller novel.

Yeah, I'm though shit, I'm keeping law and order in here. I demand to be taken seriously. I like you all, but sometimes, an administrator's gotta do what an administrator's gotta do. Nevermind my obnoxious postcount, and my Quixotian tactics; I do have a life you know, and I will try as much as possible to subtly stress on that fact although I know that no one really gives a shit, maybe except for my internet girlfriend whom I have never seen in person, and most likely never will.

Furthermore, I will orchestrate an event that will become a reference on how forum bickering can degenerate into evil stuff (usually, it's very creative shit, like death threats on the internet, revealing that EvilFrog's name is Joe, et cetera) that will provide me an excuse to act like a dickhead later, under the banner of preserving law and order. Yeah, the internet is serious business !

In order not to appear like a complete dickhead taking myself and the internet too seriously, I will create a council comprised of my most loyal ass kissers so we may "discuss" a person's ban/k/whatever. Even though ALL of this council's decisions, "arguments" and "counter-arguments" will be posted in public later, just to show that the ban/whatever decision wasn't arbitrary, the existence of such council and the "discussions" it conducts are sekrit. Nevermind the sheer stupidity of these so called discussions, that look like a macabre court drama for the mentally challenged :

- Admin : DarkKnight is suspected to have registered another username : Amidala433.

- Lapdog 1 : This is a very serious issue. Who do they think they're fooling ?
(Karma comment by Lapdog 2 : *pokes Lapdog1* [insert some comment totally unrelated to the "discussion" at hand, with subtle RL references, shit like cuisine, health, et cetera)..

- Lapdog 2 : The rules state clearly that no duals should be allowed, under penalty of a permanent ban. We have to take the necessary measures, though I am doubtful any harm could ever come out of that boring nerd who does nothing but post about movies, video games, and occasionally troll people by saying disturbing statements like "fuck you", or referring to PunkGirlie as Jessica, her real name.

- Admin : If we are to judge by that standard, no "harm" could ever come out of anyone in our forum. After all, they all are a bunch of inoffensive geeks. Is that a reason for us to let the forum I .. errr . we have created and maintained to reach its current level and status become a jungle ? No, Lapdog 2, I will have to disagree with you on this one.

- Lapdog 1 : Excellent point, admin. *hug*

- Lapdog with attitude : Let's just fucking ban that dickhead. He has been so annoying lately.
(karma comment by admin : bad boy ! :p)

- Lapdog 1 : Let us recapitulate the important decisions that have emanated from our meeting : Permanently ban DarkKnight.

The life of a forum administrator is a hard one, indeed.

It depends on what forums do you come from. I would understand a relatively tight administration in forums about politics, for example .... but in "sister forums" of TK ? It's ridiculous.

I have moderated a fairly successful website forum. Well, I compare it to TK, but still, I never took that attitude that any work I put in was something that should be paid for by gratitude.

It's the owner's version of attention-whoring.

EIs member approval process:
"Next up, we have a 'Bickendan'. Yea or nay?"
"Sounds a like a dual. Nay."
"Hold up, I've never heard of such a name. You really think it's a dual?"
"Hmm, maybe not. Must be a troll. Nay!"
"Hey guys, I know him. Yeah, he posts at TK, but he's ok. Yea."
"TK? No way! We don't need another VKD here!"
"Uh, EnglishRose posts at TK."
"Well, she's different. I still vote Nay!"
"Dude, he posts at rEFCL. He's alright."
"Is he a spammer?"
"I don't think so, but he also posts at Lonaf and has over 25,000 posts there."
"He's a spammer! Nay!"
"He gave me green karma once at TK. I'm letting him in."
"D*mmit, LoP!!!"
