Did anyone snag an Xbox 360...

...this holiday season? I hear they're kewl.

Me wanty.

Apparently the launch titles leave a smidgen to be desired, but the second wave will have a crapton of good titles. Titles like, Huxley, Gears of War, Oblivion, Halo 3 (?) and such. Apparently, they're going to try to tie three different versions of Final Fantasy Online into one huge play area (PS3, 360, PC) and everyone will be able to interact. Big bawls on that one.

360 is too expensive right now, and the only difference is a plus3 graphics engine, The rest of it is already available on the regular system. The hard drive cost is a killer, and was included in the cheaper system. I guess if you can figure out how to slave the first system it would be worth it to get a barebones system now.

It'll take them about a year to ramp up the software properly, and then I'm afraid they're going to get fucked up the ass by the summer ps3 launch, which will really alter the playing field the way I understand it.

Yeah, the PS3 will definitely change the dynamic, but I have a feeling MS has some tricks up their sleave. Their powerhouse developer Bungie is secretly working on their next "project", due out around the time of the PS3 launch.

PS2 got the upper hand by launching early but had slightly deficient hardware next to the Xbox. Now the 360 is launching early with reportedly more power than the PS3 will have... hmm... it's all guesswork at this point, but it will be interesting to watch.

The PS3 will actually be more powerful than the 360 if what I have heard is true. But it's all about getting the good games on the system.

I won't get either console for a looooong time. MY PC is a powerhouse anyway so I don't need to worry myself over getting a console for Next-Gen titles I want to play.

Oblivion is coming out on the PC as well of course and will be better and MODDABLE.

Hell, yes.

No, but I have an upgraded XBOX with every arcade game ever made (both US and Japan), along with games for every other system ever made.

In total: Over 45,000 games

Does that count? :bigass:

I'm not sure about toe to toe power, but I have heard a great deal about how expensive the PS3 will be, and that might kill it more than anything else.

I'd say that does, Friday, I'd say that does.

Where'd you get such a fabulous Xbox?
A friend of mine modified a regular Xbox. He put in a 200 gig hard drive, and downloaded all the games he collected over the years.

^Their new controller system looks really good.

I *aquired* an X-Box 360 for a week or so. its pretty damn good. although there's nothing to compare it to.

Lucky. All my Halo friends have one (well some of them, anyway).

The Revolution does look good, if for no other reason than Nintendo lettin' you download any legacy game. That's a crapton of games for free (?) and Nintendo didn't put out too many shitty games back then.

My guess is, she got a mod chip and is simply downloading and burning roms :)

The Xbox mod community is pretty rad, they've done thing like run Linux, create cluster nodes of 20 boxes or more, the aformentioned ROMs and game pirating, doctoring and changing downloaded content, and more.

The only downside to a modded box is they won't let you play on Live with it... or they will ban you shortly thereafter.

I'll wait for PS3....and by "wait" I mean, I'll pick one up in early 2007, when the ridiculous $500 pricetag goes down to a somewhat less-ridiculous $300 or so.

I do the same thing with the actual games. I've never paid more than $25 for any game, I just wait until they come down in price.

I wish I could mod my PS2 to play Japanese games. :( I have a modded SNES (and NES) that played killer games you can't get in the States.

I think the 360 vs. ps3 battle will hang on software.

Whichever system has the killer app wins, in my opinion. Killer apps of this gen of consoles were Halo (and it's sequel) on Xbox, and GTA on ps2.

I think some online game will put one company way ahead. I think it will either be a 360 shooter (Halo 3, bitches!) or a MMORPG on ps3.

Revolution is the real wild card. Get us some killer gameplay for that controller and it might really be a revolution -- it remains to be seen. Someone pointed out recently that the current console controllers all evolved from platformers (the gametype). So, they're not really derived from the 3d game paradigm so sometimes they feel clunky in it. Nintendo might be wrong about the ideal 3d controller, but they're barking up the right tree in asking the question.

IMHO
