I'm starting to believe this. I hear it more and more often, especially as our society gets more and more insular and shut off from the world. And it's not like real world dating has a particular advantage, usually convenience and location play a huge part in who you wind up with anyway...

A few of my friends met their partners online and it hasn't done them any harm, though they were all in the same town, just hadn't ever met irl. I don't think long distance relationships are a good idea under any circumstances, but particularly if you've never actually met the person face to face. Just seems like it'd be too easy for either party to be unfaithful, telling themselves "hey, it's not like I've ever actually met him/her, so this doesn't really count as cheating".

I remember when one of my friends showed us all a photo of her new boyfriend "he looks nice", said one. "Where'd you meet him?"

"Can't remember which forum it was now...", she replied. My friends weren't very internet savvy back then, so they all kind of had a double take at that answer.
