Die another day theory

As any good James Bond fan knows, each film followed on from the last one, with James Bond played by different actors, but always meant to be the same person, the one who went on all the missions, until Casino Royale, when it all started from scratch again, and in the bath as my mind wandered, I realised why.

Bond didn’t die another day, he died that day.

I’ll explain further.

The film starts well, with stuff not seen in any Bond film before, Bond gets captured and tortured for nearly two years, by the time he is released he is a flinching broken shadow of his former self, then when he is handed back to the british, he is branded a traitor, information was leaked, and he was traded for another prisoner to stop the leak.

We know our James would never break, or do we?

In the hospital he uses some sort of trance to stop his heart, a ruse to escape, but what if it wasn’t a ruse?

What if he really had broken, and when the enormity of it sunk in, what he had become, what he would never be again, he just lost the will to live, and died right there.

And in those final few minutes before his brain died of oxygen starvation, his mind stretched out his final few moments into days of implausible adventures, space lasers, ice hotels, invisible cars, north Korean’s that can pass as upper class British business men planes that burn without exploding, not being a traitor, being reinstated, getting the girl, and all the time events happening to remind him of earlier adventures.

But where those things just his life flashing before his eyes?

His brain trying to comfort him by surrounding him with the familiar and comforting?

So that at the true moment of death, Bond would imagine himself the hero again, all the bad guys dead, surrounded by diamonds, and shagging a sexy lady.

Implausible maybe, not a very heroic end for such an iconic character certainly, but it fits the film surprisingly well.

Is that the one with Harold Berry?

hey! she looks more like a girl than Madonna does!

I'd certailny give her one (one round of sex.) But yeah, good theory. Maybe Nemesis was all a retarded fantasy of B4 too.
