Big Dick McGee
If you don't know, now ya know
So I get DirecTV last May, and immediately sign up for the NFL Sunday Ticket. It's the only reason I got DirecTV, as cable would have been much less of a hassle.
In September I get a fancy-pants Sharp Aquos HDTV and I go out and pay $200 for the DirecTV HD DVR. I used it for exactly 2 weeks before moving to my new apartment.
September 28th I move in, the DirecTV guy is a no-show. I call like a million times, they tell me the best they can do is the next day. So I take a day off from work to unpack and wait for them. They show at like 4 pm (meanwhile, they were supposed to show up at 1), take 2 minutes to look at my patio (all while seeming incredibly put-out that they had to re-arrange their schedule to install my dish), and tell me, "No good. You no geet seegnal." My apartment faces the mountains, and you're not allowed to mount anything to the roof. The angle of the HD dish is such that it would be pointing straight back at the apartment. I'm bummed, but I ask the guy, "What do I do with my HD DVR? I just bought it, I want to keep it 'cause I'm buying a house in a year, I love DirecTV." He tells me in Spanglish that it's "no prolleem, they put a hold on ju account, no prolleem".
Today, I get an email from DirecTV telling me that they're sending out a "recovery package" for my HD DVR. WTF?? I call them, and, indeed, they are holding to the letter of the agreement that states that immediately upon termination of service, all leased equipment needs to be returned to DirecTV. Yes, when you "buy" a box, you're really "leasing" their equipment. The only reason I went to Best Buy is because the box there was $200 with tax, if I ordered the upgrade through DirecTV, it would be $200 PLUS tax.
This has me so fucking mad! They shouldn't be allowed to sell you something that you're really leasing. It's bullshit. I got 2 weeks out of the damned thing, and now I have to send it back.
This SUCKS. I will NEVER get DirecTV again, and tell everyone I know not to use DirecTV.
