Do you believe in luck?

Is there such a thing as luck? If so, how does it work? Are some people really lucky, and others unlucky, or is it just the law of averages?

If I knew the answer to how luck works, I'd be sat in a mansion on a Caribbean island that I've purchased.

Do I believe in it? To some extent, yes. Can it be explained? Nope.

There's no basis for it. You'd think someone as rabidly anti-religion as you would know that.

Yes, I do. I seem to have a shitload of the bad variety.

Can luck be explained? No way in hell.

No, there's no such thing as luck. There are probabilities, though, but those can be manipulated.

Luck? No.

Fate, in some form...yes. We are given lessons and things to learn, challenges to allow us to evolve thorugh experence.

Unfortinately, people learn far more readily from negative feedback than from positive.

I don't believe in Fate, either. If I did, I wouldn't hesitate to bend it to my will -- and I'm serious -- because anything that has both the inclination and ability to manipulate the physical world can be manipulated by the physical world, and if it fucks with me, I'll fuck right back and twice as hard. Fate best mind its own fucking business.

Excellent.

And that attitude is part of who you are.

The problem, I have found, is that sometimes one stands, invincible and armed to the teeth.

But a shot-gun vs. a Tidal Wave is a poor contest. Occasionally one should get out of the way.

Or learn to ride the wave....

I'm not at all criticizing your attitude, just that my experence has taught me that there's a time to stand one's ground, and a time to bend.
Of course, I may one day go out screaming defiance at a Hurricane...

People who are born to a rich family, are they lucky?
People born with great natural beauty and gifts, are they lucky?
The odds are against them, so if you look at luck as beating the odds then they could be defined as lucky.
A man walks away from a horrific car accident with only minor injuries. Lucky?

And if a person has a unusual number of these 'lucky' things happen to them, are they lucky? Statistically, yes they are. What does it mean? Well, that's what this thread is here to discuss.

Dude, you are way too deep... or is it pretentious? ;)

Luck is more serendipitous timing than anything else. Our yearning for meaning and position in life transfers that into something happening "just to us" in that way. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just the Idealised Self Image talking.

We're each "conscious". Unique in that sense. Yet we all share common experiences that we reflect to each other. That commonality allows us to express our individuality. "Yes that happened to me, only this way"

When you intuit a good decision, with good results at the end, are you Lucky or simply Mindful? Buddhists for example (and Pathworkers also) would say there is no such thing as luck, that everything that happens to you is supposed to happen. Not in a pre-ordained sense, but in the sense that as you go through life it is what it is.
