Do you know who has a good racket going?

Blockbuster Video.

They rent videos out for $4 a bazillion times, then, when it gets old they sell it for near the "new" video price. Times that about 250, and that's a hefty profit a year.

Think about that next time you step into one of their smelly stores.

They don't do that here. They do rent it out for a relatively steep fee, but the rental copies are clearly marked, and quite affordable when they put them on the shelves for sale.

I wouldn't buy the crap though. I much prefer the genuine thing.

I wouldn't buy them either. Most of the DVDs I've gotten were really scratched up. And dirty. One disk really messed up my DVD player, and it hasn't been the same since.

After that, I ALWAYS wipe them down with windex before they go into any device of mine.

I have over 400 DVDs, a 32 inch flat-screen TV, but a dirt-cheap player. I use a little-known model called a DK DVD-367. It's small, reliable, plays practically anything I shove in it, scratched to hell or not, and I reckon I could stand on it and it would survive.

As an appliance that gets a great deal of battering, I can't justify plugging a wad into an expensive DVD Player. Sound quality is mostly down to what you shove in the back of it, and picture quality largely down to the TV.

I concur. I don't have as many DVDs as you do (approx 250 to 300, probably more towards 250), but I do have a 42 inch LCD flatscreen, a moderatly priced five disk player and a five disk mini system upstairs.

However, I have a cheap 27 inch traditional TV and $120 single disk player downstairs. That's the one that's messed up. Worst case, I'll just trash that and plug in my unused X-Box to use as a DVD player for the Downstairs system.

I have a COLOUR TV with a REMOTE CONTROL.

don't lie to us, its a Black & White tv isnt it, and that "remote control" is made out of play dough.

NO I DON'T LIVE IN WALES
