When the best bit of an Episode is Danny Pink, you are in trouble.
I think the worst thing I can say about this is that I felt we have seen this before, not just ripping of aliens (hey its ok if we mentions aliens, wink), this whole wake up from the dream, no we're still dreaming has been done so many times, on star trek, star gate, hell they even did on Who before, and better.
It was okay. I thought the Danny Pink scene was the worst part (SURPRISE SURPRISE WACKY DOESN'T LIKE A DANNY PINK SCENE) because it just made it seem like a rip-off of 'Amy's Choice' except nowhere near as good. But it got better with the sleigh scene where they were all waking up and the one girl wanted to keep in touch WHICH IS WHAT I'D BE LIKE and the Doctor being happy and having fun and not being all "AM I A GOOD MAN!?" for once.
I'm surprised the hang-a-lampshade Aliens gun didn't say "hey now it's turned into Inception or that episode of Futurama with the bees!"
Nick Frost isn't exactly going to enter the ranks of great tv Santas though. It was just Nick Frost in a Santa suit (AND WHY DIDN'T THE DOCTOR MENTION HIS NAME WAS "JEFF" AND HE HUNG OUT WITH THE DOCTOR AND FRANK SINATRA, EH?)
Some people online are saying the episode was originally going to end with old lady Clara dying but Jenna changed her mind and decided to do another series, so they changed it to another dream. And Shona would have been the new companion. BUT I really don't see them ending an episode with Clara dying alone after the Doctor left her for 60 years on CHRISTMAS DAY?
I think it was bound to be underwhelming after last year's. The 11th Doctor finished his tenure with such a huge whizbang episode that there was almost no room to top it, so it's little wonder they didn't.
