I think that the term sock puppet more accurately represents the nature of the act itself: calling it a dual is a weak attempt to lend credibility to what is essentially playing pretend on an already anonymous communication forum. The silly visual of a grownup with a sock puppet on one hand, making it talk for him/her, represents far more succinctly the silliness of the act.
