I AM A GOLDEN GOD
Who wins?
I think Dumbledore - certainly in the 5th book during the climatic battle it was clear Dumbledore could have killed Voldemort but stopped because it would have killed Harry, too.
On the other hand, Dumbledore knew about the horcruxes and thus knew that even if he killed Voldemort he would not really die, but Harry would, which would end the prophecy, so there is also undertones and hints that Voldemort was letting Dumbledore 'kill' him in order to kill Harry.
Certainly, neither appears to have sought out a direct fight with the other over the years, so perhaps neither was confident in their victory, and thus felt it safer to play a longer term game.
Is there a touch of Batman and the Joker here, too? Did the most dangerous dark wizard of all time arise at the same time as one of the most powerful good wizards of all time just out of coincidence, or did Dumbledore's very existence push Tom Riddle to become Voldemort?
What if Dumbledore had been more accepting, and let Riddle teach Dark Arts at Hogwarts? Was Riddle ever savable? He was certainly bad as a child, but Dumbledore must have seen something in him, to take him under his wing as he did.
