Dyson Sphere

I am pretty sure you're confusing that with the Alderson disk, FBI.

What I find funny is that Dyson merely thought up the sphere as a means to detect extraterrestrial life, and never actually put much thought in the engineering of such structure. Others just kind of ran with that idea.

So spinning a Dyson sphere wouldn't result in an outward force perpendicular to the axis of rotation?

(I am not a physicist.)

It would or wouldn't, not a physicist either, but I really wanna see you try define "down" in outer space first.

I mean, I'd say that "down" is whatever suits the current spacial metaphor, but "falling sideways" is probably the better choice in that specific case.

I do like the idea that Dyson spheres could conceal most of the evidence of a vast advanced civilization, so that it might be that we're not alone in the universe and it's just that nobody wants to talk to us.

LOL, I actually pondered that. I mean, what the fuck would a type II civilization want to talk about with a species that hasn't even master planet-bound solar energy yet, anyway??

+13 ... lol!
I wonder how the modern computers fare if the Cray was +9.

Ah, I see what you mean now. Random thoughts:

- basing the SQ on processing rate as one variable is logical, but doesn't really encompass biological intelligence.

- A network of today's supercomputer might have a rather high SQ, but that doesn't mean that there is any chance of developing communalness, imo, since you'd need consciousness for that first, and that's still not found in silicone-based structures, right?

- I think that it's not only the different SQ that will render any communication with advanced extraterrestrial beings rather pointless - in order to communicate, you need a foundation of shared experiences and perception. That's why it is harder to communicate with cetacea than with, say, dogs. Unless the extraterrestrials have very similar life conditions, there will be no common ground to communicate about.

- Let's for a second start to fabulate... if God as the highest being has a SQ of +50, it sure would explain why we can't comprehend his ways or why he doesn't seem to give a fuck about us. Maybe someone a long time ago actually "saw" extraterrestrials, and that was the start of theisms worldwide ;)

Hey, we all have moments like that. Go ahead, I bet FBI doesn't mind.

On second thought - and I am only mentioning it because I totally care about your social standing and general well-being - if there are men around, you might wanna make sure they can't see what exactly you're touching yourself over, your image in public might never recover from that.

There is NOTHING more important to me than what people think. And I only touch myself to the most wholesome, godly and socially acceptable ... things. Like this thread.

It made me emotionally erect.

Yeah, I know! After all, what would be left of a man if not for the praise and acceptance of his most distinguished peers?

And I only touch myself to the most wholesome, godly and socially acceptable ... things
porn?

Hehe, that sounds like a teenage girl trying to do man-talk :D

Oh ffs, not you, too. Isn't it enough that I've lost Dono as wet dream material? What happened to "P90X" and "ripped" and "TK men" and stuff??

I am getting emotionally deflated here. Quick, say something science-y.

I've always thought that gravity is a gyroscopic side effect of the centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the earth.

There's no theory to support this, it's what I think. I think you can hear bells as you escape rotational gravity also.

A real man doesn't need to talk. He may choose to. But he doesn't display the need to. Ever.
