Eggs: Uh-oh...Mets in trouble for the playoffs?

Big Dick McGee

If you don't know, now ya know
Glavine might be gone for the season, and didn't you just lose Wagner? Don't get me wrong, I was a big Billy Wagner fan when he was here, but the guy is always hurt.

Phils got no chance of catching the Mets, but they're still very much in the Wild-Card race! AND...they just got another proven left-handed starter, Jamie Moyers, from the Seattles. Things could get VERY interesting the next 40 games!!

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF THE METS TO TANK IN THE LAST MONTH OF THE SEASON!!! THAT POWER IS AWESOME!!!

Seriously, who knows? I take it one game at a time.

Tell me about it. I have a co-worker (my new ball-bustin' golf buddy) who is a huge Yankees fan. I don't hold it against him, since he grew up just over the bridge in Jersey. He keeps saying stuff like, "You Phillies fans are unbelievable, your team is in the playoff hunt and you're just so negative! Give them some support!"

To which I reply, "There's a good reason that sports-show hosts call this town 'Negadelphia'. We're negative because we AIN'T WON SHIT IN 23 YEARS! The Phillies been around since 1880-something and they've won ONE World Series! It's easy to be positive when your team has won 26 billion Championships and they're in the playoffs every year!!!"

Then, I usually pass out from saying all that in one breath.

OK, today was the day that I knew the Mets are gonna tank by season's end. They just won their 6th straight game and their 11th straight home game, and today I saw the following jinxing statement in a news article for the first time:

Thanks to the best home record in the National League, the New York Mets are well on the way to their first division title in 18 years.

THANKS FOR THE F'ING JINX, YOU BASTARDS!!!

p.s. Sometimes David Letterman can still be quite funny:

"The Yankees won four games over the Red Sox. They won up in Boston, four in a row. Boston is blaming their pitching. Mel Gibson blamed it on the Jews."

The Phillies just won their fifth in a row...oooh, and they're playing now, gotta open another window and check the score...Cole Hamels is pitching...and I just checked and they're losing 4-1.

I dunno though...they now have FIVE quality starters, and I'm starting...ever so slightly...to believe they can win the wild card! Ryan Howard should hit North of 50 HR this season, that'll help.

Holy shit, the Phillies are losing 11-1. Cole Hamels gave up NINE runs. Ouch.
Hey, Cleveland was down 10-1 in the 1st in KC yesterday, and came back to win 15-13.

You just never know in this crazy world of ours. Nope. Nosiree.

I WAS TALKING TO THIS FRIEND OF MINE LAST SUNDAY AND HE SAID THE METS ARE SO FAR AHEAD THAT IT DOESN'T MATTER THEY WILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS EVEN IF THEY LOSE EVERY OTHER GAME THEY PLAY BETWEEN NOW AND THEN.

Well, with tonight's win they're 78-48. That's 126 games, so there's 36 games left.

RIght now the closest competition is the Phillies who are 64-63. They have 35 games left.

If the Mets win half their games and the Phils win 3/4 of them, it would be Mets 96-66, Phillies 91-71.

Yeah, I guess at this point it would be hard to catch them. But this is the Mets we're talking about. Historically, if there's a way they can implode, they'll find it.

But they made some deals this week to get another starter in the rotation (thank God), so hopefully they won't completely fall apart too quickly.

The Red Sox aren't holding up their end of the deal! They can't fade now, otherwise we won't have a 20th anniversary Mets-Red Sox reunion Series...
