OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD! I didn't realize it was back on already. I love this show, I think this and The Americans were two of the best new shows to air last year.
You know the very first scene he's in with the hooker and his shirtless, tatted and very tight torso on display? I was an instant fan.
Besides him being a good actor and really, really nice to look at, the whole show is very well done with an excellent supporting cast and good writing. They tied up the Moriarty connection so cleverly, I'm surprised it's never been done before. Some people complain it's too formulaic (which I disagree with) because he solves a new case every week. Well, no shit. It's how they get there that's the treat. The relationship between Sherlock and Watson is believable and compelling and thank god they haven't made it romantic. And believe it or not, I think it's better than the BBC Sherlock which plays out more like an over-the-top cartoon. Moffat's over-indulgences are (barely) acceptable on Doctor Who but he's made Sherlock into a parody of a brilliant detective.
Well, having not seen the BBC Sherlock (except on Tumblr and what I can snag on youtube) I can't really compare it, but I agreed with everything you said about Elementary.
