ARSENE WENGER insists Arsenal can win the title without Cesc Fabregas after writing off his captain for the next four months.

SunSport revealed exclusively yesterday that the Spanish midfielder faced a lengthy lay-off after rupturing medial ligaments in his right knee.

Fab jetted to Barcelona yesterday for a third scan but boss Wenger is confident his playmaker will not need an op after he was crocked in Sunday’s 1-1 home draw with Liverpool.

But the Frenchman did admit: “It is a massive blow for us because Cesc is a competitor who wants to play every day.

“The news is not good. I am expecting him to be out for four months.
“It is impossible to say how much we will miss him but we have to find a way to compensate for his absence. Everyone else will have to give a bit more.

“It’s a good opportunity to show we have the strength to deal with losing Cesc in the middle of the season for such a long time.

“But of course we can still maintain a title challenge without him. Hopefully he can come back to help us over the line in the final month.”
Wenger also branded Graham Poll ‘an embarrassment’ for his comments about John Terry’s latest red card.

Former FIFA ref Poll suggested JT should have received special treatment during Chelsea’s clash with Everton because he is the England captain.
Poll made his comments after referee Phil Dowd had given Terry a straight red for his lunge at Leon Osman on Monday.

But Wenger fumed: “Frankly, when you listen to the comments of Poll it’s quite embarrassing for referees.

“I have never believed that players’ reputations are taken into account in these matters.

“But you change your mind when you hear statements like that.”

It never rains but it pours, right? We just got Eduardo back and now this!? I had my fingers crossed that the injury wasn't as bad as it looked when I was watching the game but this confirms it is.

I can especially relate to this injury because I suffered the exact same injury in a football match when I played for my school team and I ended up having surgery on the knee it was so bad.

Of all the things we needed we didn't need to lose the best midfielder on the planet :(

The only positive to come out of this is that it looks like Wenger has finally given in and will be signing a quality midfielder in the January window.

The whole squad is beginning to look like it needs a summer overhaul.

Sagna, Clichy, Ade, V. Persie, Eduardo, Vela, Walcott, Djourou, Cesc, Nasri and even Gallas when he's not deciding to have a tantrum are all quality. We have some great talents that are going to be excellent for the team but are a bit green as well like Denilson, Diaby, Ramsay, Wilshire (ABSOLUTELY AMAZING PLAYER), Merida, Simpson, ect, ect...

We just need to do something about our midfield and probably another player in defence as well.

We really don't need an overhaul at all. We need that strong commanding DM and more cover but that's it really.

Batista's out six to eight months with a muscle tear.

Not the same thing I know...

6 to 8 months is very harsh for him since he's no spring chicken either.

Btw, Gagh what do you reckon of Jack Wilshire? -- I've been watching him play in the Reserves for a while (before the hype around him) and of course his run in the CC.

At 16 years old he is looking like a prodigy. He has the vision of Cesc to pick players out anywhere on the pitch and read the game at all times and he has bags and bags of talent.

This kid is going to be huge for Arsenal and England.

He was supposed to be main eventing WM against Cena too, so that's a big payday missed.

Sounds like he must of torn it partially off the bone or something to be out that long. It's a problem for the super built wrestlers. HHH ripping his quads every 5 minutes for example.

He should play him more. I know he's trying to protect him, but lets see if the kid can hack it.

BTW, what happened to Toure? He seems to have done a Lauren - turned from a dependable defender into an apparant nobody in the space of 12 months. This time last year he would have got the armband after Gallas threw his tantrum.

Gallas is still ahead of Toure in the pecking order and they're too similar to play together. That's why he hasn't been getting many games. It's ridiculous because he can play midfield and that's where he should be playing for us right now.

Good news/ bad news

very sorry to learn about Fabregas..never like to hear about quality players coming up with such serious injuries.

this is better news....watching to see what becomes of Wilshire...a prodigy or two would not hurt England!
