Former Marine in Court for Lying About Receiving Purple Heart

A 27-year-old Topeka man is due in court this week on charges he lied about being wounded in Iraq to get a Kansas license plate bearing a Purple Heart.

Former active-duty Marine Sergeant Timothy DeBusk was charged with two felonies -- one each of dealing in false identification documents and making false information. DeBusk is accused of using phony papers showing he had received a Purple Heart in order to get the license plate.

A retired Marine who saw a copy of the documents said he noticed incorrect wording and other flaws on the certificate. So he submitted the citation to the Marine Corps, which found no official records that DeBusk was wounded in Iraq.

DeBusk was also charged last year with pulling over a car and flashing a badge identifying himself as a federal law officer. He paid a $318 fine for impersonating an officer.
:jayzus: I don't know which is lower, faking being wounded or pretending to be a cop as a ploy to get attention.
