the way i see it, those fuckers are sooooo CULTURE SHOCK NUMB, either form transient radiation or their own accelerated isolationist culture that this is the only way they can "feel" anything.
i am not familiar with Japs who are filmakers. i doubt there is a market for Jap films in the US...unless they are drug dealin' villians in the next direct to dvd Steven Seagal film.
There's this whole splatter movement that seemed to originate with "Ju-On", and "Ringu", films like that.
They take about 45 minutes of this long drawn out very slow and very boring talk fantasy that then goes over the top gore wise in the last 15 as it plays out the fantasy in ways you couldn't possibly imagine unless your mom had Hiroshima tats.
Dude... big fuckin' giant radioactive lizard vs. big fuckin' giant radioactive moth. Japanese filmmakers being fucked up is not news. Just more like an update: "Yep. They're still fucked up. Let's check back in another 40 years."
But where they may be behind the curve in filmmaking, they're way ahead of it in cuisine.
"Hey, should we cook this fish?"
"Pff! Dude, like that's gonna make any fuckin' difference!"
The Japanese are pretty fuckin' weird, that's the truth. But as TQ said, the food is good, so who cares. Oh, and the cars and electronics in Japan are much, much cooler than the stone-age stuff we have here.
Their baseball sucks, though. I could never live in a country that didn't have good baseball, let alone NO football!
Back when I was running the Kingdom, DevilMan had quite a forum on those films. I guess theres like thirteen (probably more now) of them, the premise is they're all on an island and have to "eliminate" each other in some way.
yep. With the declining economy and birthrates rising, Japan decides to institute the "Battle Royale Program" Where they send problematic classes to an island to duel to the death with a premise much like Highlander, only one can remain alive. Given a bag with rations, water and a random weapon, the students are set against each other. Many dont wish to fight, others fight to win.
